How are the 80's Coltrane releases on CD? Do they also qualify as better than the later remasters?

I don't think this album was ever remastered. AFAIK, the only other unique versions are the original US CD and the remix.

They destroyed it in 2007 DG
How 'remixed' it is not sure, I could only get through a couple of tunes, and didn't notice any differences except for massive compression
Part of the dual layer SACD/DVD-A set.
Think there was a standalone as well.

Incidentally, you won't be disappointed by any of Paul Winter's releases on the Living Music label. The original vinyl versions were audiophile-quality to begin with, whether Winter Consort, Winter solo, or side projects from any of his co-horts (Paul Halley's Angel On A Stone Wall is a particular favorite of mine, but); do not pass up any of the titles involving melodies contributed by various wolves, whales, seals, eagles (no, I am not kidding), or performances recorded inside the Cathedral of St. John The Divine in NYC...or in the belly of the Grand Canyon. Particularly watch out for:
    Callings
    Whales Alive (with Leonard Nimoy)
    Canyon
    Sun Singer
, or the pioneering Equinox liturgy,
    Missa Gaia/Earth Mass

The MCA CDs? Yes, they do. (I prefer the Japan Warner Pioneer pressings.)

Roger Waters - "Pros and Cons" (Us Columbia CD): magnificent
Chick Corea: ""Now He Sings, Now He Sobs" (first Blue Note CD): like having the Chick Corea trio playing in your room.

It's not that simple. I have
    Lou Reed - New Sensations
    and
    Lou Reed - Legendary Hearts
They are terrific and blow the new remasters (iconoclassic) away. So there are different 80s mastering for Lou Reeds albums, all releases with catalogue # ND.... sound absolutely gorgeous. We discussed this before iirc.

Oops, my mistake. I forgot MCA acquired Impulse! and the were branded under MCA for a time. I may even have some of the titles.

Just listening to my late '80s RCA CD of Treat Her Right's debut and wishing that many of my other CDs were mastered with the same care...

The Target disc of Fleetwood Mac's MIRAGE is an amazing improvement over subsequent issues, even the most recent remaster.

IIRC, our host said this was because Warner's vaults were better organized than those at other labels, so they were more likely to pull a genuine master tape instead of something else.

The original Van Morrison Warner Brothers CDs are generally better than the Polygram remasters, not that the latter are terrible. Looking forward to Anesini getting a crack at the catalog with Sony, assuming Morrison doesn't stifle the whole thing.

I listened to the first Danzig album again over the weekend. Sounded very nice, especially at higher volume. Probably dirt cheap, too.

Those early discs (as is the case with many '80s-era CDs) sound fantastic. The I.R.S. Years Vintage series sounds pretty much identical to the original discs to me, though I have not closely compared the two.

Depeche Mode - Singles 81-85 on Mute. Paid $1.50 for it ages ago. It still sounds amazing today (esp on 'New Life').

Actually, it is that simple. Compare to an original vinyl LP pressing and then tell us what you think.

I stand by my opinion that the original RCA CD of "Legendary Hearts" is an absolutely terrible sounding disc.
"New Sensations" . . . only slightly less so.

I have never heard the Iconoclassic remastered CD's for these titles.
