album by album thread closed Chuck Prophet album by album thread Happy to start a new one if people don't mind me reposting what I wrote first time around!
Previous thread got as far as No Other Love (2002). But would love to hear more forumites' views on all the albums...
I was shocked to find that video today. I've been looking for video from this era for a long time, and today it showed up. I feel so lucky to this day of having seen him and band on many occasions in various locales in the Bay Area in the 90's. Always great. My period at the Albion was the late 80's, before I moved to the Bay Area. I had a friend who I visited during that era, and the Albion was a couple blocks from her apartment, and her home bar. We'd mostly go in early in the afternoon, spend a few hours, then make our way to other joints in the area. Such a different time in San Francisco. By the time I moved here for good, she had moved on and my home bar became the Starry Plough in Berkeley where I saw Chuck do some incredible shows.
I do envy you that, Sam! There are some audio recordings from this era, but precious few board tapes. We THINK we have uncovered a DAT soundboard tape from Great American Music Hall around the time Balinese Dancer was released. It circulates as a fairly high generation dub and even marred by hiss, you can hear how special it is. When I listen to it, it takes me back to the time I first saw Chuck and Stephie play, in Edinburgh on their first European tour.
Windfall, That thread was one of the things that got me hooked on SHTV when I was still a lurker. It would be great to get it revived, there's definitely a band of us who could keep it going now. NP
I'm still planning to reboot the album by album thread but things have been a little crazy. Meantime, European fans should take note that Chuck is currently rebooking for January 2021 and the first official date came to me via one of those ticket alerts: Bristol, Sunday 24 January. I believe London will be Friday 29th, but TBC...
Yeah, saw them in Manchester (Academy 3) on that tour and it was special. Very special. And of course, much different to Green on Red. Great days.
New single and a great new video here. More European dates being announced for January. Great new blogpost/newsletter here under "news" Chuck Prophet News

update on the biography - pre-orders for the standard and special edition should be up in a fortnight or so. I will post a message here.
I'm with Richard, looking forward to getting my hands on this baby. Well done Windfall, your commitment to this project is much appreciated, well done for making it happen, I know it will be a gem. NP
Neil, are you still resisting listening to the new songs? Looking forward to your take on brother Aldo!
Windfall, 1. Yes, I have still managed to avoid them all bar Johnny Thunders. I nearly stumbled into Nixonland in error (thanks to James DP), but I pulled the plug in time. I really look forward to a proper front-to-back listening session when the album finally lands in August (just after my birthday too). 2. I have added a few comments on the Album thread, but I will add a more considered assessment once I have had a dedicated listening session (when time allows). Many people are finding time on their hands during lockdown but I've never been busier! Glad to see the UK dates are rescheduled for early 2021, I will be busting for a good Mission Express show by then!!!
I'm sure Chuck would be delighted if Bob wrote a song about him, complimentary or otherwise Let's hear some thoughts on Balinese Dancer, people Chuck Prophet Album by Album Thread: Brother Aldo to The Land That Time Forgot
