Yes I agree on the photo. Do you have the disc and if so what do you think of it? I am thinking of ordering Melnikovs Shostakovich piano concertos disc as well.
No, I don't have the disc but will order it soon. The Shostakovich disc also has the Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op.134 by Isabelle Faust and Melnikov, which is great.
Some night music on the turntable... Elliott Carter's "Night Fantasies" (1980) and a two movement "Piano Sonata." Paul Jacobs, piano. A Nonesuch release from 1983.
I've got the Japanese SHM-SACD of this one, and it sounds amazing. Now that the Philips label has met its demise, it's got a Decca logo, rather peculiar-looking, I must say.
Listening to on, uh, CD: Reading the liner notes I just found out I *almost* share a birthday with Kempff
Cool! I share mine exactly with Tamas Vasary!! Very glad about that, since the other guy is Hulk Hogan!!
Probably very true at any given time - if not always. But ' legendary ' would suit the description for sure!
Now on the turntable, "Taverner - Missa Gloria Tibi Trinitas" performed by The Tallis Scholars on Gimell.
Since the subject of BIS popped up the other day, I have had a desire to play my very first BIS CD purchased many moons ago at Tower Records(RIP) and still one of my favorties. The first of many BIS recordings I have bought. I can't remember what I paid but it was an import and it was pricey. I can still remember hearing this played on KUSC here in LA when it was released and I thought it was a revelation and a purchase was necessary. Needless to say, this record made me a fan of HIP. I usually like both HIP or more traditional large orchestras. I will buy them both and they both bring something different that I like.
Now on the turntable, "Adrian Willaert - Motets" performed by The Boston Camerata Motet Choir on Nonesuch.
This AM: cycling through my Rozhdestvensky Prokofiev symphonies on Melodiya /Angel LPs with Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra. I have this cycle on CD as well but I am still on my LP kick. And I am going through my Prokofiev section.
So they can't use the original name on the label, but I would think they would be able to list the original issue in the liner notes. At least I wish they could and would.
Now playing: Antonín Dvorák – Quartet for Strings No.1 in A major Op.2 B.8 – Andante appasionato for String Quartet in A minor Bretislav Novotny (violin), Karel Pribyl (violin), Lubomir Maly (viola), Jan Sirc (cello) – Prager Streichquartett (Prague String Quartet) (Deutsche Grammophon) I found Volume One (of three) with three CDs in a thrift shop for $2 last weekend.
