I tried to listen to this new purchase, but when I opened it, there was no disc! Amazon will replace it.
I like this ,but then I like most Goldbergs except if they are played by ham fisted oafs ! Both Gould interpretations are at the top of my list but in recent times Perahia and Dinnerstein have come close.
I just listened to Brahms Symphony No. 4, the Kleiber Vienna Philharmonic recording from 1981 on DG. What a brilliant performance, this is easily in my top five favorite of all the classical recordings I own. I was almost brought to tears by the second movement. I have the original unremastered CD, and I wouldn't call the sound quality top tier but it is still very good and well balanced to my ears. I find the sound of this recording to be better balanced and fuller sounding than Kleibers famous Beethoven 5th and 7th recordings.
I just ordered the JVC XRCD cd version of the Solti Rite of Spring. This will be my first XRCD I am looking forward to hearing it as this album was mastered by Alan Yoshida who I have read nothing but good things about on this forum.
Seiji Ozawa Boston Symphony Orchestra Ravel: Orchestral Works Volume 2 Le Tombeau de Couperin; Ma Mere l'Oye; Rapsodie espagnole. Eloquence, 2006 fine interpretations
That's the asking price (though I didn't see it on Amazon), it doesn't mean the CD is actually selling for that price. It's available for 1 euro plus change and shipping from third-party sellers on Amazon Germany: Amazon.de: Einkaufsangebote: Concerti Grossi Op.1 and on Amazon.com it's also much cheaper: P. Locatelli - Concerti Grossi - Amazon.com Music
Now playing: Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphony No.7 in A major Op.92 — NDR Sinfonieorchester – Günter Wand (RCA Victor Red Seal - NDR / Sony Classical)
This is the one I saw: Pietro Antonio Locatelli, Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Gottfried von der Goltz - Concerti Grossi, Op. 1 Nos. 2, 4, 7, 8, And 9 (Goltz) by Pietro Antonio Locatelli - Amazon.com Music
It is nice to see this much underrated Italian baroque composer getting more attention in recent years ...
I am somewhat neutral on the Freiburg Barockers as a baroque ensemble. Their tempos are often a bit too brisk for me. While I have a few of their recordings, they are not my go-to recordings ...
OK, but, as I said, it's the asking price and I don't think it'll ever sell for that kind of money, certainly not as long as it's available elsewhere for a euro plus change or just a few dollars.
Vaughan Williams, Handley, Rlpo - Sea Symphony 1 - Amazon.com Music My favourite release of this keystone of early 20th Century English music.
I saw him conduct Dvorak's 9th a few years ago. He will be missed. His Suk and Martinu recordings are highly regarded. Too much competition with Dvorak although there have been some positive reviews.
