Now listening to CD 2 from "Bach - 6 Solo Sonatas & Partitas" performed by Viktoria Mullova on Onyx. Sonata No. 3/Partitas Nos. 2 & 3
Today's absurdly cheap CD, in this case 2 CDs for 98 cents: Glenn Gould, J.S. Bach, .Well Tempered Clavier, Book one
SACD is the way to hear this and her Mendelssohn disc...recorded in multichannel DSD when the tech was very young. As for the posing...it's just the record company trying to sell a few more records. And wasn't this one of her last records for Sony before jumping ship for DGG? Perhaps she wasn't pleased herself at being marketed that way.
I have that Vivaldi CD. It was hyped by some reviewer in Stereophile a while back. Nice recording and package: 2 CDs with 24-page booklet. I'm still warming up to the music, though. Vivaldi takes a few listening sessions to grow on me... (or not).
Probably just as well. Trevor and the English Concert recorded the Bach Concertos for 1 harpsichord (bwv 1052-1058) in analog; the 2, 3, & 4 harpsichord concertos (bwv 1060-1065) were recorded digitally.
I wonder if that bargain-bin pricing is a sign of things to come--now that Sony "Super Bit Mapping" 20-bit remasters are re-remastered to 24-bit. ("Out with the old... ") BTW, the photo on this CD was shot by Columbia's photographer Don Hunstein... trying to give Gould the James Dean look. Gould was actually in the NY studio recording the Bach Partitas in 1963 when this photo was taken. He didn't complete Book 1 of the Well-Tempered Clavier until a couple of years later.

Brought this one home today, too (my LP is a London). Love his playing, and love the sound on this record.
