Here's what may seem to be an odd couple - Donovan and Crystal Gayle singing Catch The Wind. I'm a big fan of both, and its one of my favorite songs, so I enjoy this quite a bit!

Ed Kuepper did a great, bluesy 'Hey Gyp' on his album Today Wonder.

'Donovan' on Happy Mondays' classic Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches is a partial rewrite of 'Sunshine Superman'.

Neil from The Young Ones (Nigel Planer) covered 'Hurdy Gurdy Man' on his spin-off / cash-in album in the early 80s.

And I've never heard it (and can't quite imagine it), but apparently Eartha Kitt released a single of Catch the Wind / Hurdy Gurdy Man in 1972.

I haven't done an A/B, but from memory, I thought the HH version was simply sped up. Now that I think about it, without putting it on, it doesn't make sense that a track could be used produced for X company (Epic?) and then used for Y (ABKCO)..

Well, I've got deeper liner notes since that last post, so I can go see what I can find! BTW, I'm still not happy with any SQ version of Donovan's "Museum" - damn, I wish that was on AF's Storyteller. It's on Mellow Yellow I think and I got a remaster that was just awful... but it had demos, etc. on it. A UK import release. Love the songs, hate the sound.

This set I have has the best sound for the track... but would love a decent sounding deluxe edition of those one-two punch albums, the latter being Mellow Yellow.

I wonder if Stevie Nicks has ever done a version of Season Of The Witch, that would be a good song for her. They use the song quite well for her cameo in season three of American Horror Story.

Al Kooper or ALVIS would get a kick out of hearing this.

Hard to believe Edward James Olmos ever looked like this.

Glad this thread came back from the grave. Lots of cool covers on this page alone.

Jim Horn did a nice version of 'Jennifer Juniper' on his long out of print album, 'Through The Eyes of a Horn.'

Peggy Lipton of Mod Squad fame bubbled under with her version of "Wear Your Love Like Heaven." It's been quite a while; I need to play that on my station again...

I'd like to find this. Is it available easily? I too have a radio program so I'm always looking for older 60's music that doesn't get airplay (or not much at least).

It's on the Complete Ode Recordings. It starts with a bit of Sunshine Superman too for the complete Donovan experience.

There's a version of I Just Wasn't Made For These Times on the same CD which matches the original.

Vanilla Fudge totally reinvented the song, complete with producer Shadow Morton's recitation of a verse of the song "We'll Never Learn", written by Essra Mohawk (uncredited) and originally recorded by the Shangri-Las. Scariest version on record.
