What he said! It's just a very narrow stereo mix.

  3. The Fantasy box sounds fine. The AP CCR CD/SACD box sounds finer.

So Proud Mary is in mono on the Box even though there is no mono mix?

for those longing for a mono mix the narrow stereo is close enough.: )

Worst stereo mix, ever. But, folded to mono it's a nice mix. The mix was so thin in stereo that it made "The Book Of Lists" for songs that sounded mono but were stereo.

yes, terrible! always longed for a wide stereo of this...a friend of mine years back -Paul Stoddard- (R.I.P my friend) made a fake wider stereo...it was fun.

I remember now, the way The Book Of Lists proved that it was stereo at all was by looking at it on an oscilloscope!

yes I remember that...BSN had many, many threads on PM during the 80's...it was on the most wanted stereo list over there...

Oh that box! .....it was given to me as a gift although I already owned the Hoffman versions. I kept CD1 (1961-67 singles) and chucked the rest.
I disliked the sound quality immensely (harsh comes to mind) and I felt that no one should have to be exposed to that, even at a used price. I hope this helps.

yea, we know it! will they ever stop challenging? NEVER...LOL.
maybe it'll sink in to the rest of the nay-sayers...love the periods!

  16. I understand. So the track came from the stereo master. Why would they fold it down to one channel and not leave it in stereo?

because the stereo mix was terrible and pointless...

  18. Could they not have gone the other way and made a decent stereo track? They did make a "wide" stereo Proud Mary from the folded down quad.

I guess John Fogarty would have the answer to that one...unfortunately we're beat out of a glorious stereo mix...

Much lesser bands have released super deluxe editions of their albums... if only they would find tapes with unreleased stuff!

we'd love that, but unless there's a secret stash that he doesn't know about....nothing has been saved according to JOHN...

  24. I doubt John Fogerty was involved in changing the specific mixing for the wooden box set. Seems someone made a goof or a conscience decision to fold Proud Mary down for the wooden box set. We'll never know.

And you are so right, CCR's signature song could have been presented so much better.

I've learned a lot. Time for some chili and beer.
