Thumbs up for including the entire Terrapin Station suite. Thumbs down for not including Alabama Getaway!

I dunno, I kind of like it. It's obviously not a "hits" collection. Including such groovy deep tracks as "Cream Puff War", "Easy Wind", and "Unbroken Chain" is a big plus in my book. Plus, regardless of the majesty and mystery that the live excursions would embark upon, the studio "Dark Star" is one of the greatest nuggets of the original Frisco scene.....

    ...man.

On Garcia's first solo album. Not a Dead song, strictly speaking.

Saint Of Circumstance and New Speedway Boogie would also be nice.

Here's my suggested track list for a terrific Dead compilation...

    Disc One:
    1. Drums

    Disc Two:
    1. Space

It's quite a smart list really, and picking only from studio albums avoids the kickback they'd face if they tried to do something similar with live versions. The biggest omission for me would be 'Weather Report Suite', which would take a substantial bite out of some of the superfluous material on the second disc.

Then again, the very first Dead compilation, Skeletons from the Closet, included "Mexicali Blues" from Bobby's Ace album - so the precedent is there.

Aside from the lack of one of their very best songs (Bertha) it's fine...

If they were going to do that, Playing In The Band from Ace wouldn't be a bad choice.

It should just be four 30 minute versions of Dark Star

Well, they've already released The Very Best of Grateful Dead, so this one logically should be inferior. :)

My love of the Dead began with Skeletons in the Closet and Steal Your Face so who am I to say?

But how in the world can you leave off "Morning Dew"

It's good but I would end disc 1 with help slip frank, and push music never stopped and estimated to open side two.

Then I would cut miracle blow away and foolish heart to make it fit.
