EXCLUSIVE: TNT's Dallas reboot is starting to take shape. Josh Henderson
(Desperate Housewives) has landed one of the leads in the project, playing
J.R.'s son. Additionally, original Dallas stars Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and
Linda Gray are now all confirmed to return to Southfork.

The updated Dallas pilot, from writer Cynthia Cidre and Warner Horizon, centers
on the offspring of bitter rivals and brothers J.R. and Bobby Ewing -- J.R.'s
son, John Ross (Henderson) and Bobby and Pam Ewing's adopted son, Christopher --
who clash over the future of the Ewing dynasty while the fate of Southfork
itself weighs in the balance. Henderson joins Jordana Brewster, who was recently
cast as Elena, the gorgeous daughter of the ranch's cook who is locked into a
love triangle with Christopher and John.

Hagman gained worldwide fame for his portrayal of oil baron J.R. Ewing on the
original soap, which ran from 1978 to 1991. Following months of negotiations
over salary demands, Hagmman has finally signed on for the Dallas reboot after
verbally committing to the project last week. Gray and Duffy, who came on board
late last year, played J.R. s wife, Sue Ellen Ewing, and J.R. s younger brother
Bobby, respectively, in the original Dallas.

I won't watch this, but I'm glad Hagman can work after all his health problems and new liver. He really has to watch himself. Goota be good for his mood to do a little (dis-)honest work as ole JR.

Darn, why didnt they get the actor who played JRs son on the TV series to reprise his role?. To those who followed the show, that would have been more believable than some new actor.

  8. Agree, could be fun if done well.

The original is one of my favorite shows. It will be interesting to see how this compares although my expectations aren't too high.

I hope the writers keep the 'Cheese' factor in the show, that's what made it so good :righton:. Mis Ellie was the only sane person on the show (well, maybe Jock in the early episodes). Everyone spyrilling out of control, cat fights, unbelievably bad dialog, all must be recreated to get top ratings for the trash that they all are :D

Living in Dallas in '82/'83/'84 and '85, many of the bars had Dallas night with drinking games, too many to list for when you had to take a shot or chug a beer. Nowdays, it's safer and smarter to do that at home :edthumbs::cheers::edthumbs:

Thanks for the update, I'd forgotten all about it, but I drink ya know :D

A full series update of classic 1980s US soap opera Dallas has been given the go ahead, it has been announced.

US network TNT said it had ordered 10 episodes of the programme, after it commissioned a pilot earlier this year.

Original stars Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray reprise their roles in the new show, which will focus on the Ewing family offspring.

The series is due to air in the US next summer. It is not yet known if it will be shown in the UK.

"TNT has explored the possibility of an updated version of Dallas for several years, but it wasn't until we read Cynthia Cidre's outstanding pilot script that we knew we had the foundation for a great new series," said TNT's Michael Wright.

"It is incredibly exciting to see both new and familiar characters in the hands of a dream cast. We couldn't be more pleased with how Dallas has come together."
    Texas feud

Cidre wrote the 1992 film Mambo Kings.

Following the bitter rivalries and power struggles within two feuding Texan oil and cattle-ranching families, the next-generation Dallas update centres on John Ross and Christopher Ewing as they clash over the future of the family dynasty.

Star of 90210 Josh Henderson, who appeared as a child in the original series, will play John Ross, son of JR Ewing, while Desperate Housewives star Jesse Metcalfe will play Christopher, son of Bobby Ewing.

Fellow Housewives star Brenda Strong will also appear as Bobby's latest wife, with The Fast and The Furious star Jordana Brewster starring as a character involved in a love triangle with the Ewing cousins.

TNT will preview the new series on its network on Monday night.

The original Dallas ran from 1978 to 1991 on US network CBS and was also broadcast to huge UK audiences on the BBC.

Sneak Peek on TNT Monday Night July 11th

    Mon., Jul. 11, 2011

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that, according to a Dallas City Hall press release, Warner Horizon Television has selected Dallas as the location for TNT's Dallas.

The show, a continuation of the original Dallas from the 1980s, is expected to have a "significant financial impact on the city; create many jobs for crew, actors, extras and vendors; and increase tourism."

"The City of Dallas is very excited to once again have an iconic television series named after our city and pleased that we could assist in making Dallas not only the obvious location choice, but a good choice for the bottom line too," said Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Pauline Medrano.

Pre-production and production on the series are expected to begin later this year.

TNT announced Friday that it has ordered 10 episodes of the series and will give viewers a sneak peek at the show's pilot tonight during the season premieres of The Closer (8 p.m. TNT) and Rizzoli & Isles (9 p.m. TNT).

Surely it is more likely that some exteriors and establishing shots will be done in Dallas but most of the shooting done in L.A. I can't imagine that the entire production would be based in Dallas given the high costs involved.

In any event, a return to Southfork could be a hoot, but I doubt it will be a hit. Scripted soap operas seem to be relics of another era; today's viewers apparently prefer reality shows for their trashy melodrama fix.

Whatever happened to Charlene Tilton? She seemed to completely vanish from sight when Dallas ended.

For those who care, this starts tonight on TNT. This first season will be 10 episodes.

  23. It's nice to have some of the vet cast members but the younger folks like they were pulled from generic pretty casting and have little to no character to me.
