I didn't think it would be my kind of movie either, but after seeing it, it's in my all time top ten. His performance is magnetic, and despite his character being completely unlike able, he is so compelling.

My wife and I will see anything Paul Thomas Anderson directs.

    There Will Be Blood
was her favorite film of 2007 - which wouldn't mean much to anyone if I didn't point out that she is headed to her 199th film in the theater so far this year.

Just looking at his credits, his quality control is remarkably high.
    He hasn't "done a DeNiro"

  11. I bet he's even turned down Woody Allen :tiphat:.

  12. I remember seeing My Beautiful Launderette and A Room with A View back in the same year in the 80s. I loved his two performances and at the time, had no clue they both were the same actor. .

I've never seen that one, not a fan of musicals and I wasn't aware of it. I don't think I've seen The Bounty or Sunday Bloody Sunday, I will have to check them out. He made a big splash with There Will Be Blood but he's always been great. Big fan!

I must admit that for the most part I'm a meat and potatoes movie fan. I like Tom Cruise running around blowing up stuff and movies like that. The arty stuff is not my thing. I am a Neanderthal.

  16. Lewis does few meat and Potatoes type films.

  17. Accordingly, I don't believe he's really quitting. He's just preparing for his upcoming role as a famous actor who quits acting.

i truly thought 'gangs of new york' was a terrible movie.

one of those "so called epics' that was highly highly overrated, most likely because of the immense hype that surrounded it.

One can argue about the film's worthiness but Day-Lewis' performance is incandescent.

DDL gave a great performance, but he overwhelmed the film. The other actors couldn't keep up with him.
