I picked up the UK Sony import The Big O Singles Collection. This was supposed to come out domestically a few years ago, but was shelved. I like it for its comprehensiveness: Born On The Wind is fantastic, but Candy Man has distortion on the vocals, almost a crackling. Some of the tracks sound like their sources are vinyl.

Steve...I love the job you did on the DCC CD. It feels like Roy is in the room with you!. Also, love the liner notes and pics!

I have never heard Roy sound any better.

Keith...how long did it take the CD to come from Sam Goody. I requested two day shipping on the Jim Croce and it has already passed the deadline.

Getting anxious to be blown away by Steve's remastering.

I liked the completeness of it, but they could have used less CDs by putting more tracks on it and lower the price. Also, they could have put both the single mix and the stereo mix of Oh Pretty Woman.

For an excellent collection of the late 60s post Monument years Rhino's The Classic Roy Orbison (1965-1968) is excellent. It selects the best tracks from that period many of which are the equal of his Monument material.

It contains the brilliant Communication Breakdown which was a big hit here in Australia.

    Sound quality is first class.

    Michael I LOVE WIDE S-T-E-R-E-O!

    Are they remixed?

Well I don't know for sure Michael, but unlike the For The Lonely Rhino CD which specifically refers to remixes this one has the more typical Rhino statement:

Produced for compact disc by BILL INGLOT
Digital Prep and Transfers: BILL INGLOT and KEN PERRY

I would guess that they're not remixes.

Brian, samgoody.com did right by me with delivery. I ordered the DCC CDs from samgoody.com on Saturday with 2-3-day shipping (UPS). By Sunday, the web site said that they had shipped. I received the discs Wednesday.

For those who like Roy's west Texas rockabilly, pick up Lost & Found: The Unreleased 1956 Recordings, credited to his group the Teen Kings, on Fuel 2000. All tunes were recorded from live KOSA-TV broadcasts in Midland-Odessa, Texas. Quality is OK, though there's a little buzz in a few places. What a lineup and Roy really delivered!

I thought it might be. That explains the differences. I had read somewhere (maybe here on the forum) that Roy's stuff was mixed live to two-track and three-track as a safety. I imagine they remixed the three track on the Rhino.

Lonely and Blue on MFSL sounded pretty decent IMO. I have compared it with the same songs that are on the DCC Graetest Hits and as good as the MFSL is the DCC is smoother and more natural sounding.

Haven't ever heard the Sony Gold version. This album is too short (I know they made 'em that way back then). Shoulda been a 2-fer with one of his other Monument albums.

I am not finding that Sam Goody is doing right by me. I paid for 2 day shipping. I received no e-mail that it shipped though the order status shows that. That was supposedly on Tuesday. It's still Friday and no Jim Croce. I am going to call them and try to get to the bottom of this, but I am very dissatisfied.

Just curious, when you ordered it, did it say 24-48 hours or backordered? I looked at the site and it said back ordered so I don't think they have it right now. I've only had luck when it says 24-48 hours

    Aaron,

It showed 24 to 48 hours. The order status showed "shipped" That was on the 20th. I called them. Thankfully they filed it as a lost item and are crediting me. So, that rates very high in my book. I am pleased with their refunding me. I wished they could give me a tracking number, so I can look on line with UPS. I am just down that I won't be getting the CD and listening to Steve's magic touch!

I think I paid about 40 for it. I'd say it's worth it - the only weak tracks are his later MGM stuff. All the good Monument recordings are there, as well as some of the Sun singles. I also picked up another disc that has all the Sun recordings.
