Do you like Rush, meaning, do you like their studio/live music, lyrics, stage presence, etc.?

Please don't rush. This should be your thoughtful :agree: voting.

    Uh , yeah...LOL

I think if you did a search you would find plenty of threads and fans of Rush on this board. You'll also find plenty of haters I'm sure also.

    I went with - I don't care for them.

I have a couple of albums by them and have tried to get into them several times, but they just never really clicked for me. They have a couple of decent songs IMO, but that is about it.

I loved and truly enjoyed Rush from the mid 70's to the early 90's. Trail blazers then...

I quite like the music, and can see their appeal but the big hurdle for me is Geddy Lee's singing voice - that's the deal breaker for me.

My cutoff is about 1984. I love the early stuff but anything after that date I will pass on.

This sums it up for me too. I love "Dreamline" and "Driven", but most of their stuff since Grace Under Pressure is not to my liking.

  10. The most unequivocal "no" I could ever answer to a question.

Pretentiousness personified; fingernails on a chalkboard sound. Not one note of their music in my collection.

    But I have no musical taste - I'm just a "hater"...:sigh:

I chose "I love them" but maybe after the 17 disc collection of WG Atomics I just bought from The Rush Fan get here I'll change to "I really love them." :D

I don't like them. I can't understand the pointless solos, the embarrasing pseudo poetry, etc, but I can't say I can't stand them. A more accurate description will be that Rush is a band that bores me to death.

Geddy's voice is what gives the band it's charm. Like a high priest from Atlantis.

Congratulations! Your average 1.5 songs at a time is quite high.
My average is embarrassingly low to post. :biglaugh:

I do like them, but I'm a late-comer. I plugged in at Snakes and Arrows, and the reason, I guess, was the change in Geddy Lee's voice. No longer with the banshee wail, time lowered his register and all of a sudden it made sense to me. Now, I've gone backwards and can enjoy older material more than previous. Also, love Lifeson's guitar work; a well of great, interesting ideas.

Although, and boy am I going to get roasted for this :hide:, I still don't get the reverence for Neil Peart. Great drummer, but . . . I just don't hear anything to merit the god-like worship. Please, in all seriousness, educate me.

I don't get the Peart worship either. He always makes me think of that bit Frank Zappa has in his autobiography about drummers who's one go to fill is always "that one where they hit all 35 toms on their kit in quick succession." Geddy Lee's singing always makes me think of squawking sea birds.

I would agree with you , so you are not alone ..... after many years what i have come to in my mind ... Neil is a great drummer for RUSH , outside of RUSH sorry he's not all that great , what he does that is amazing is within the Context of this Band ...... I'm a Dig Lifeson fan , love his playing ....

This thread needs more options :D
