Do you prefer original Black Sabbath with Ozzy or Black Sabbath with Dio?

Lady Evil is about a woman who just happens to be a witch. I mean, c'mon. How explicit does it have to be?

To some people here it is! Never knew Dio stole so many people's girlfriends.

This is more than a fair point - many, many hard rock lyrics fall apart when you simply look at them on the page. Plenty of Geezer's lyrics too. I make it a point to maintain, I don't know, a respectable detachment to a lot rock band lyrics.

It means that I don't hear much of a similar sound or lyrical theme between early Sabbath and Gillan/Sabbath. I was being somewhat sarcastic. Something like "Trashed" and, say, "Electric Funeral" don't have much (if anything) in common.

Granted, Lady Evil isn't a favorite...but it's light years ahead of Dirty Women.

As far as being a song expressing a morbid obsession with cartoonish "evil", yes, yes it is.

(I love the song BTW. I mean, if you're gonna go Dio, go full Dio. As for "Dirty Women", Ozzy's brutal vocal near the end burns my face off. It's astonishing.)

Heh, you know, I like Straight Through the Eyes pretty well as it's the first Rainbow album I bought and I saw them on that tour.

To be honest, I've never really warmed to much else they've done. I like selected cuts from the Dio era, but no whole albums. People praise Rising and LLRNR but I'm just kind of left shrugging my shoulders. Yes, there's great guitar work and great vocals but I'm still left nonplussed. I did go back and listen to the first album fairly recently and thought it was good.

I never liked Down to Earth or Difficult to Cure. The former because of Graham Bonnet and the latter because it just seemed kind of weak.

To me, Black Sabbath MK II was the original Rainbow with Iommi instead of Blackmore. I don't see them as being radically different in approach, except for the fact that Sabbath never did long tracks and Rainbow always tried to keep a toehold in the Not Entirely Dragon-Rock Camp with tracks like "Black Sheep Of The Family" and "Do You Close Your Eyes" and "Sensitive To Light." Dio isn't too much different in either context, except that I think his lyrics were better with Blackmore.

Down To Earth is just awful IMO. Bonnet's voice grates on my nerves. I gave "Lost In Hollywood" a listen just yesterday after it came up in another thread, and damn, what a noise that guy is. He's like David Lee Roth with better vocal chops but with a dull personality. I'll grant that JLT's a better singer, but we already had one Foreigner and didn't need another one!

This is like scaps from the cutting room floor of abandoned Gillan/Dio album.

I guess the real shame is that Ozzy has never written any lyrics...
