I was at my local audiophile recordings dealer and spotted one gold cd. It is Roy Gaines: I've Got The T-Bone Walker Blues on the Groove Note label.

Anyone know the quality, or lack there of, on this one? THX

I second Claus, although I haven't listened to it for a couple of years when I bought it. I think Stereophile, (or Tracking Angle), did an excellent review of it, so I gave it a shot, even though I had never heard Roy Gaines before. I remember it as very well done.

So Bill, am I to understand that there is no treble harshness on this one? Could you maybe do me a favour and give it a listen for me? THX:)

I’d recommend that before you buy Roy Gaines you buy a nice collection of the classic stuff like the real T Bone Walker or maybe some Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Slim Harpo, Bobby Bland, BB King, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Charles Brown, Elmore James, Little Walter, Otis Rush, Lightnin Slim, etc. Why buy second rate blues just because it has good sound quality unless you have already built a solid collection of the real deal?

    Dave,

To answer your question specifically this album has no treble harshness on top. It was recorded to 30ips analog tape with a variety of tube mics and produced by Joe Harley. The Gibson guitar sounds damn good on this album and the louder it gets the better it sounds. Get the disk you wont be disappointed by the wound OR the performance.
