When they taped the shows, they would record the shows at the Aquarius Theater, in Hollywood on Sunset Bvld. just before (east) of Vine, across from the Hollywood Palladium.

They would take all day, and record sometime as many as 5 to 8 artists, (whoever was in town at the time), and then they would edit a show together.
Sometimes only using one or two of the artists of that day, but sometimes they would use all the artists for one show.

The shows were heavily edited, but was a fun day in Hollywood!

It would great to see complete shows, not themed compilations.

I remember watching this show. I would go to the high-school basketball game. "Celebrate" the games outcome then go home and watch this. In spite
of all of the great performances shown, the one I most remember is the video of Greg Lake singing his Christmas song. (sorry but I am at a loss for the title)

The "It's Alive" live DVD Anthology of the Ramones(bright pink cover) has 3-4 Kirshner full song clips like the one above. Quality is good.

Is it too early to confirm that the Prince performance(s) won't be used?

An episode guide of the complete run of the show ain't easy to find, but here's a bit of something a friend sent me a while back.

A lot of the song title information and descriptions come from the historic films site.

I'm only posting the first 10 episodes of season 1. If you don't mind, please don't ask for more. :) It took me quite a while to edit this thing down from the goobledegook version that was originally e-mailed to me, and it has given me a headache.

Ah, just logged on to tv.com. They have an episode guide up to the 10/19/74 Season 2 show.

    http://www.tv.com/don-kirshners-roc...ode.html?season=1&tag=list_header;paginator;1

    http://www.tv.com/don-kirshners-roc...ode.html?season=2&tag=list_header;paginator;2

A couple more things -- I don't claim what's listed below to be 100% accurate. Plus, the show was syndicated, meaning that the airdates given could vary wildly from TV market to TV market.

It'll be interesting to see what's going to be left out when the DVDs are released.

Hi Nitorodz--many thanks very much for posting ---great info and whets my app for the dvds to follow---complete episodes are prob a dream--but would be great.

Big question--How much effort will be required from the artists to license this material--I can see several bands or solo artists asking for a huge sum to get this done correctly or does DKRC and SOFA not need this to get material released?

The majority were live performances, but they had some pre-taped stuff as well (Faces, Stones, etc.). I really liked the show for the most part. I'd love to see the Black Sabbath episode from '75.

That's too bad. I've never understood why this was common and acceptable. Seems such a complete waste. That's too bad that the Faces and Stones did it. Those are two I would really like some legit live footage of in an environment like that. Hope they leave all the lip synched stuff off the set.

This is a great point as our studio (Soundfarm) owns the original masters from the first two "ABC in Concert" shows - 4 track 1/2" 15ips Ampex 406 (made from the 24 track machine on the location truck).

The best information I have is that the video, 24 track, and 1/2" masters were all tossed but we were lucky enough to rescue the two show's audio tapes in 1980.

As for audio quality, it is totally stunning, clear, good s/n, and crisp stereo on tracks 2 and 3 (for FM simulcast), mono (for TV) on track 4 and mag sync for video lock on track 1. Transient response is excellent. The Rock Concert tapes that Historic Films have were also made this way.

I think the boxed set is going to be great but also I think there would be an even greater demand for all the tracks to be put up on Itunes. What do you think?

We have already processed and restored all the tracks at this point and there are several tunes that the respective bands played at Hofstra U. which
were recorded but not aired. I amd attaching a couple of pictures, hope they show up here OK. Any help appreciated on getting these cleared for distribution, they are great!!!

Here's a list of the tunes aired:

    1972-11-24 #1
Alice Cooper - Eighteen, Gutter Cats vs. the Jets, School's Out
Curtis Mayfield - Freddie's Dead, Pusherman
Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley, Diddley-itis
Seals and Crofts - Hummingbird, Summer Breeze

    1972-12-08 #2
Allman Brothers - One Way Out, Ramblin' Man, Whipping Post
Blood Sweat and Tears - Snow Queen, And When I Die
Chuck Berry - My Ding-a-Ling, Roll Over Beethoven
Poco - Go and Say Goodbye, And Settlin' Down

And here is the list of what is on the master tapes:

    Gutter Cats vs. the Jets
    School's Out

    Curtis Mayfield
    Freddie's Dead

Quite a few of the shows were filmed at the Long Beach Auditorium. I went to a taping in the fall of 1974 when I was in the Navy. We picked up free tickets at a downtown Long Beach movie theater. I think the taping started about 4pm and lasted past 9pm. We sat on the floor right in front of the stage. The groups that day we were there were Average White Band , Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Steppenwolf, and Brian Auger and the Oblivion Express. The groups were all shown on different shows and I have seen all except Brian Auger because our ship went overseas. I asked Brian Auger a couple years ago if he had a copy and he said no and if I ever found one to email him so he could get one.
