The intention of my post was to point out that Absolutely Live was released between M. Hotel and LAW. To me it's as important as the 6 studio Morrison albums. I have no idea why The Doors don't include this album in all the boxsets released over the years. Played the heck out of it when I was a kid. It's a great Jim Morrison era Doors record!
Thanks. One thing that may be confusing everyone (if the information I have is correct) is the CDs from the 2006 Perception box have the original mix [the remix is on the DVD], and the individual 2007 CDs have the 2 channel remix taken from the Perception DVD. Do these Canada pressings have the HDCD logo on the art or CD? I have the "The Soft Parade" (8122-79998-1 - manufactured in EU) which doesn't have the logo. I don't have a HDCD player to check this. Remix produced, engineered and mixed by Bruce Botnick Mastered by Bruce Botnick at Uniteye, Ujai, CA Sure. Any mastering information on this one? I wish they had left the track sequence the same as the original LP with "Not To Touch The Earth" and the studio "Roadhouse Blues" (or edit out Morrison's talking from the live version.) The Japan CD has these additional tracks. Greatest Hits - WPCR-537 (reissued 1998 - AMCY-2648 / 2000 - AMCY-6173) additional tracks: Love Her Madly Ghost Song The End (from Apocolypse Now) Wintertime Love (alternate vocal - Japan CD only)
I picked up the 2012 Waiting For The Sun CD for $5 last night. Although I am not able to compare it to anything else right now, it does not sound like the remix to me. I need to go back and listen to "Wintertime Love" to check the vocal track.
HDCD 1999- Remasters packaged in jewel cases, purchased when they were released are all HDCD encoded. (no mention of hdcd in credits or on the labels) 2009- Audio Fidelity- both titles are HDCD encoded.
Is it this one? Does anyone know which mastering this is? - original mix/no mastered by credit. No bonus tracks. The Doors Strange Days Waiting for the Sun (R2-531886) ( "Wintertime Love" has wrong vocal) The Soft Parade Morrison Hotel L.A. Woman Thanks.
The disc has a tan label and shows the Rhino and DMC logos. In that way, it resembles the 2007 remaster.
(Canada) 2006-2007 remixes are not HDCD - they contain CD text. -----------------------------------------------------------> 1995 CD track listing - Greatest Hits Remastered by Bruce Botnick "Hello, I Love You" – 2:12 "Light My Fire" – 7:05 "People Are Strange" – 2:09 "Love Me Two Times" – 3:14 "Riders On The Storm" – 7:09 "Break On Through" – 2:26 "Roadhouse Blues" (live) – 6:12 "Touch Me" (Krieger) – 3:10 "L.A. Keith, does the 2011 Japan only Hybrid SACD (2 ch/surround) use the original mix or the remix? Is there a mastering credit? http://www.amazon.co.jp/ハートに火をつけて-S...qid=1388674819&sr=1-3&keywords=the+doors+wpcr If it uses the original mix, are "Break On Through" and "The End" the originally released versions or the high/F-bomb flown in versions?
Thanks. 1999 original mix releases - HDCD encoded 2007 remix releases - No HDCD / CD text Too bad about the "Greatest Hits" CD track list. It was a good LP. L.A Woman - 40th Anniversary Edition 2 CD set - mastered by Bruce Botnick Deluxe two CD edition, released to coincide with the 40th Anniversary of this iconic album. This release features a never-before-heard song, 'She Smells So Nice', which captures the band--organist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, drummer John Densmore and late singer Jim Morrison joyfully barreling through a full-throttle original before segueing into the Blues standard 'Rock Me'. The track was recently discovered by producer Bruce Botnick while reviewing the L.A. Woman session tapes. In addition to 'She Smells So Nice', the second disc includes eight never-before-heard versions of songs offering a fresh view on this landmark album, which was the group s sixth straight Top 10. The studio chatter between the songs is a revelation, transporting listeners to The Doors Workshop: the West Hollywood rehearsal space where they recorded the album with Botnick. One segment in particular captures a fascinating moment of inspiration when Morrison suggests they add the now-iconic thunderstorm sound effects to the beginning of 'Riders On The Storm'. Thanks pig whisperer for clearing that up about the Perception CD remastering. Makes sense the Perception CD main album tracks are not the 1999 remasters since there are no credits to both Bruce Botnick and Bernie Grundman in the Perception booklets. I don't own any of the 1999 remasters to compare, but I'll take your word for it as I've just read other comparisons stating the same thing. Those folks were stating too that the Perception CDs are 2006 remasters of the original mixes. The only credit in the Perception booklets that deal with mastering is "Surround Sound and Stereo Mastering by Bruce Botnick." So that applies to both the CDs and DVDs. Sorry I said earlier it only applied to the DVDs. I think the major source of confusion is how the separately released 2007 40th anniversary CDs with the 40th anniversary remixes had the same bonus tracks as the Perception boxset CDs. Thanks again!
I am a thoroughly confused Doors fan! This thread has helped BIG TIME. But I still can not figure out how to find what I am looking for. I've been searching for the best CD source of the original mix of "Break On Through" (without "high") for a long time. Unfortunately I can't afford the gold CD. Any recommendations on a hits compilation or pressing of S/T that contains the original mixes and edit(s)? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I own Perception, A Collection (2007 remixes), Very Best Of (2007 remixes), and Legacy: Absolute Best Of (original mixes, but has "she gets high"). I also bought the Complete Collection from hdtracks (original mixes and edits!).
L.A. Woman 2000 DVD-A - 5.1 produced & mixed by Bruce Botnick from the original 8-track analog masters - Audio authoring and mastering supervisor, Al McPherson. Mixing studio, Bernie Grundman Mastering.
So WEA issued new masters of the original mixes on CD in 2006 (for Perception) and then issued new masters of remixes on CD in 2007? If so, is Perception the only place to get the 2oo6 remasters?
The SACD s/t does not contain the high/f-chant, nor does it have the speed-corrected Light My Fire. Both the vinyl and SACDs were mastered with the intention of keeping them historically accurate/as close to the original releases as possible. From the Analogue Productions website: The Doors self-titled 1967 release famously contains some incorrect speed and pitch issues. While there have been "corrected" versions made, in the interests of being historically accurate, this Analogue Productions reissue was cut without speed or pitch correction. http://analogueproductions.com/index.cfm?do=detail&Title_ID=78309
The more I read, the more I am convinced that the cube box set really brings nothing to the party. Am I wrong?
No. If you don't care for or like "high" in Break On Through or the f-chant in The End, then there's no point if you have the SACDs or the DCCs/AFs.
Which set(s) have the speed corrected light my fire? Is the 40th anniversary cd speed corrected? Is the "remix" by definition speed corrected?
The remix was the first to have the speed-corrected version which sounded amazing when I first heard it, but I love both versions. The iTunes version also has the speed-corrected version. I'm not sure if the HD Tracks version has the speed-corrected version or the as originally released version. All of the other CD versions have the original version.
PW The 1988 release of Soft Parade is scarce as a stock copy. Many copies I see are either BMG or Columbia House record club issues.
So, I am back to selling my perception box and my cube, then just picking up the 40th anniversary remix CDs down the road... Seems like a good plan since I like those sacd's...
