I run my music from a Mac, and seem to need to go to the Midi setup to adjust for the sample I will be using as output, and the color of the dragonfly adjusts accordingly. Can it adjust automatically? How? Do I need special software?

I use Amarra and the colors change on the fly.

If you are using iTunes as your playback software that is the problem. It is not an issue with the Dragonfly. iTunes does not automatically switch sample rates and you do have to manually change them in Audio Midi. Unless, you use another playback software like Pure Music, Audivrana or Amarra which can work in conjunction with iTunes (which acts only as the database manager).

    Thanks to all.

You could check out the app Vox, for playing .flac files.

Also like Vox. Clean and simple.

I recently bought a couple of HiRez albums. That said, I went ahead and changed the sample on the Midi set up on my mac to 96hz to play those files through the Dragonfly. I noticed a change to the sound of ALAC (16/41) files: lower volume, less bass, lower tonality if you will. I guess there's no other option than changing manually the sample rate when switching from CD quality files to hirez using my mac/itunes.

If I understand correctly, I'd face the same problem even if I were to upgrade to a more expensive DAC (provided I continue using itunes?)

    Thanks for the advise.
