That's amazing - I had no idea they even existed. Looks like they use the exact same base as the ottoman from the Eames Lounge Chair/Ottoman combo.

Man, those would look great with my chair!

I would guess they were bought as single speakers in the mono era.

Very mid-century modern design, which may not be to everyones taste,

I saw a documentary film about the history of the Ray and Charles Eames Design firm about two weeks ago. Interesting story. Back in the mid 50's stereo was still not all the common in audio systems so my guess is most people had only one of these speakers if the had any at all.

Do you not like Eames in general, or just this piece?

I think it is beautiful, btw. I haven't met an Eames that I didn't like!

On a related note, here's the Braun L-01 speaker designed by Dieter Rams. Great looking stuff!

    But on a different scale!

I did some further digging and the picture I posted above of that particular model was a prototype. It (obviously) sits in a gallery now, but as it was not offered for sale to the general public, maybe JBL never knew about it.

I love his chair. My dad had one. I just think this one is a miss for him.

What do you think about the Eames Storage Units? I have always thought they would make great stereo racks. Then again, my taste is a bit "space age bachelor pad"/Mad Men-esque. Luckily, my wife feels the same way!

Although not a vintage Eames design, the new Davone Audio Ray speaker looks quite at home next to the Eames Lounge Chair.

His AND her. Charles and Ray Eames (husband and wife) usually worked as a team. They designed a lot of iconic chairs, not just the Eames Lounge (which I am guessing you are referring to).

That looks great. If you could substitute an Eames ottoman base onto that Davone Audio Ray speaker, they'd be a perfect match.
