I went to HMV this morning to pick up Bela Fleck's new release, The Imposter. While in the jazz department they are playing this amazing acoustic instrumental album. I asked the clerk what it was...Earl Klugh's new release called Hand Picked. I immediately purchased it. I can hardly wait to get home tonight to give it a serious listen. Anyone else heard this ? Glen
I have not heard it but I love his early works from the 70's to early 80's. He's a great acoustic guitarist but underrated as a jazz artist.
There's a sameness to his records (and I have quite a few), but he is a very talented player and you can find his discs in the cheap bin. Worth a listen, for sure.
I kid. It's just funny how the initial post didn't get a response until a year later...and then you bumped it recently.
It's nice to see a thread on an under appreciated talent like Earl Klugh. My brother sent me a cassette with Low Ride on one side, I used to play that pool side all the time, it's got a real fun vibe, for the longest time it was an expensive CD used, I waited ten years and spotted one at Amazon and jumped on it, funny thing is I don't play the CD a lot but it is nice to have, it's available used for around ten bucks and I highly recommend it (listen first)!!! The Klugh Benson album Collaboration is nice too, I have that on LP and CD. Good Luck.
I will have to check it out for old times sake. I grew up in the late 70s when Earl was smokin hot and a Mobile Fidelity copy of Finger Paintings was in EVERY audio shop !
Absolutely, it's still absolutely classic. I never tire of it but as I say it kind of takes me back to being a teenager and playing it endlessly.
