If you're referring to the AP "24 Karat Hits" that was mastered at Sterling Sound was mastered and released in 2012.

Vic Anesini did the Complete Elvis Presley Masters, that's all the Elvis one needs.
The first 4 discs cover the 50's. All of those 1980's-90's boxsets should be deleted and reissued using those 24-bit masters.
Heartbreak Hotel sounds great on that 30-CD set.

I'd give a kidney to get that set on 24-96 if it exists.

I wish I could afford that set ! Maybe if I hit Lotto ...
I bought a lot of those Elvis "theme" CDs (Rock, R&B, Country, Live) to get the Anesini masterings, along with the "Essential" 2CD set

This one would appear to have a tinny sound :) Bee Gees Life in a Tin Can

  5. :cry:So this thread isn't about glorious 50s rock and roll, rockabilly, r&b, and doo wop, but the usual 60s British bands that did anemic cover songs of those great tunes.

Yeah, Doncha know that rock didn't start until the British Invasion! In the USA stereo was understood and produced as early as 1958. It took the Brits another 10 years to catch on (in pop music anyway).

That was my first thoughts as well. Now if he was talking about the early jazz recordings I might agree.

Yeah, I read the OP and was, what? It doesn't sound too trebly to me.

Heavy compression from microphones on started since the Beatles, giving a full intense sound but has nothing to do with High Fidelity which was the goal before that, HiFi until the sixties was something to go for, for me most satisfying.
