Anyone using the Electra Glide stuff? I've been using their Fat Man power cords on my amplification and it makes a huge improvement over several other cords I've tried, including stock cords, the Maple Shade double helix, PS Audio Lab cord and CPCC custom. Comparing these was quite an eye opener (or ear opener rather). Anyone who claims power cords make no difference simply hasn't done the requisite listening.

Now I'm thinking of upgrading to the ELectra Glide Ultra Kahn II. If anyone's using that, let me know.

Interesting. I recently purchased Cardas power cords. Have you tried them? I have no idea how they compare to Electra Glide (as a matter of fact, I've never eveen heard of Electra Glide!).

As for your question - I have no idea! Sorry.

Never heard the Cardas power cords, but I have heard their speaker cables. I liked it, but thought it wasn't quite an "honest" cable in terms of speed or linearity. I thought there was a significant emphasis on midrange.

I have a fat boy on my amp. There are probably others out there for less money that are just as good. Got mine for peanuts. The ESP cords are very good (have 3 of those). The Kimber Palladian is supposed to very good which I will be trying soon. The new rage in power cords these days seems to be the Elrod, hideously expensive though.

Electra Glide sounds like something I'd use to make my old Buick run better. :D

Here is a "flow chart" of Electra Glide cords. I was a bit hasty in asking whether anyone is using the Ultra Kahn II because those are brand new for '04, and Scott Hall (who makes all these cords) will only be producing 200 Ultra Kahn IIs.

Fat Boy —> Fat Man —> Genghis Kahn —> Ultra Kahn/Mini Kahn/Mini Kahn Plus —> Ultra Kahn II

They're pricey, but once you make the initial investment, Scott gives you great deals on trading up.

Wow, $4,500 for an Ultra Khan II. No wonder Mr. Hall makes only 200 units of this in a year.

I'm surprised he makes that many, along with 400 Ultra Kahns and 200 Genghis Kahn IIs. They're all hand-made and it isn't like rolling cigarettes. That's a lot of work.

Does he make everything all by himself? He's got to have some helpers, right? That's 800 units of the top three power cord models alone!

Naaaah... Just check the valves every so often, keep the head bolts tight and for goodness sakes uncork those pipes. Sounds like a sewing machine with those mufflers on it.

Sorry but the HD reference was too good to pass up;)

I dunno Paul, but as far as I could tell he had sequestered himself for the first 20 days of January. He wasn't replying to email or anything! He sent me a quick note at the beginning of the week saying my cords were almost done and would be shipping by the weekend. What that means in terms of the quantity of cords he can produce, or how much help he has, I'm not quite sure. But it does mean I should have $9000 worth of the ultimate power cord in high end audio on the way to me right now.

ok...seven months later I finally get my cords. FINALLY!

Don't order direct from Electra Glide. Huge mistake. Go through their dealers. I thought I was going to have to file interstate mail fraud charges before this was resolved, but thankfully I didn't have to go down that road.

All that remains is taking these puppies home, plugging them in and spinning some discs this evening. Can't wait...and thank goodness I don't have to any more!

Greg, I would be most interested in your review of the power cord upgrade. I checked your profile and you have a very nice system. What interest me is that you spent more on PC's than I spend on my pre-amp (cj P16LS) and almost as much as I spent on my TT and cartridge (VPI TNT-HR and Benz-Micro M2). Did you find that the PC's delivered that much value?

    Yeah, I forgot the "e". www.electraglideaudio.net

Well, after giving it a careful listen, I'd have to say that these are the best power cables I've had in my system. I am using them on my VAC amp and SCD-1. They improved every aspect of the presentation compared the PS Audio Lab cables I was using previously. The first thing I noticed was better bass...and then stronger imaging...and then more artculate midrange and treble. After a couple hours (we listened to the Allman Bros Eat a Peach for the A/B, then the SFSO Mahler 4) the cables really cooked in.

I put on the Sarah Vaughan SACD which I've listened to frequently since buying it early this year. It knocked my socks off like never before. I knew this was a great transfer, but I have never heard it sound alive like this. There was tremendous presence and realism in attack/decay and microdetails that I live for. No doubt the UK2 cords are very special. The only question is how much better are they than the Fat Man 2000s that I had to yank and send back to Electra Glide for my trade-in deal. Probably not $6000 better, but then again I didn't pay anywhere near that for the upgrade.

One thing i can easily compare about the Fat Mans vs the UK2s is the flexibility. That alone made it worth upgrading from the Fat Mans, which were quite rigid and wouldn't let my SCD-1 "float" on the Aurio isolation feet I use.

The UK2s have raised the performance of my system to a level beyond my expectations, and I feel lucky to have them...even if it did take 7 months for them to arrive. Would I pay list price of $4500 each? After hearing these in my system, I'd be tempted to say yes. Every quality I enjoy in the performance of my system has significantly improved.

These are surely going to get better over the next month. After 30 days or so I suggest swapping the power cords so that the one you had running in on the VAC amp goes to the SCD-1.
