Elliptical can be very good!

    That's why I use the AT33EV - it has a different sonic signature to other AT phono cartridges (meaning, not nearly as bright). Most people I know who use other moving coil AT cartridges load them WAY down. I don't like to do that, so I had to find one that didn't require such treatment. That's how I ended up with the AT33EV.

    Seconded. The biggest single upgrade I've ever heard from a turntable was switching to a Gyger stylus in the shape of a 1042, other, perhaps, than the difference that a proper support for a Linn Sondek makes. I now use a 1042 on a 1980s Townshend Rock with Rega RB300. At today's second-hand prices, probably the used audio bargain of the last century.
