Trying to find details about a copy of this vinyl LP Ihave
    Number 2479 118 De Luke
Made in the Republic of Ireland
On LPs label has OCEAN misspelt as OCEN
Is it a rarity or a Bootleg Record?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  2. I cant help you but i have an original release LP and a reissue and to my ears they both sound "muddy" and very "low fi"! Are there any good issues out there, or is just me? I love the album but would like to hear it as "it should be"

According to Discogs, it's official, just a Misprint

IIRC, the original US release was better sounding than the UK. It's a very well recorded album and neither muddy nor lo-fi in any release I've heard.

I could not agree more. I finally found a US original and it surpasses my UK original and a US pressing mastered at Sterling.

Is the same true for other 70's Clapton titles?

The only other ones I did US vs UK comparisons were Blind Faith (UK by far), In Concert (US by far), Rainbow Concert (US by far) and Just One Night (about the same).

What kind of original US pressing do you have? There are so many!

There are matrix numbers that end with: LY (Shelley), MO (Monarch), PR (Presswell), RI (PRC Richmond), SP (Specialty) and others. Some were mastered at Specialty and have SRC stamped in the deadwax (can be very faint), some by George Piros (AT/GP).

Here's the info for the one I have....

    SO 4801

    ST-SO-743147B SRC logo
    ST-SO-743148B SRC logo

For me, this is the best sounding one I have ever owned, I've had a couple of different UK and US pressings, if there is a better one I'd be delighted!

I did have a US copy where one track was different...

Give Me Strength was replaced by Better Make It Through Today (for legal reasons if I remember correctly).

I had that on an early CD pressing, didn't know if they did the same on vinyl?

Give Me Strength lyrics claimed by Clapton publishers but it was an old poem or suchlike. Still listed as "Clapton" on all editions I own.

Great album, in my all-time top 3 albums. Love it!

I love the album as well, good organic sound not like the sterile antiseptic stuff we have to put with in 2017! Some of the people who call themselves producers/engineers just haven't got a clue how to record musical instruments. AAaaggghhh!

I have this one as well. It's the only copy I've ever had of this. Can't remember when or where I bought it. But I know I bought it second hand.

Yes! It sounds great. Guess I got lucky. :)

Interesting! According to Discogs the metalwork made by SRC was used by the pressing plants Specialty and PRC Richmond. So the matrix number on the label of your record should end with SP or RI.

Sounds really nice in 5.1 high-res, like BluRay or SACD.

They are the matrix numbers on the deadwax of the LP, not the labels.

I don’t know what the correct term is for that, but the matrix number in the deadwax is repeated on the last line of the label. Appended to it is the code for the pressing plant. Which in this case probably is SP (for Specialty) or RI (for PRC Richmond).

Yes, the label has SP (Specialty) on it. The SRC logo in the deadwax signifies Specialty as well.:targettiphat:

Hi, I'm new in this forum. I've been reading it for a long time and finally I've decided to register.

I have seen a very cheap LP of this title, a 1989 reissue... Is it worth buying?
Thank you very much. Excuse my english, it's not my native language

I wouldn't bother with it, originals are reasonably cheap and worth seeking out.

I have some 80s reissues of other artists... They sound fine to my ears.
But I'll try to get a 70s Ocean Boulevard pressing

It matters in this case because I think a lot of the vinyl pressings are muddy compared to the Spotify stream so the sacd should be about perfect
