I like the period-correct photos you use on your "The Early Beatles" sleeves. It always bugged me that Capitol used a late 1964 photo for early 1963 recordings.
I've also done jewel case art for: Kraftwerk Kraftwerk 2 Ralf & Florian an Echo & the Bunnymen complete singles (up to the first break up) The Church 'Sing-Songs' EP The Church 'Remote Luxury' EP The Church 'Persia' EP a 2CD version of R.E.M.'s 'Dead Letter Office' (from the hib-tone single through the last IRS single) a Complete Simple Minds singles from 1979 to 1985 a Housemartins complete singles and a 2CD The Jam singles (A's & B's) with a bonus disc of all the promo/flexi-disc/live ep, etc. If it's a compilation of singles that I'm putting together I usually try to make the artwork fit to the existing artwork aesthetic of the band's albums and singles. If it's an original album replication I try to make jewel case art that replicates all the original art for the LP, slightly re-jigged to fit the jewel case. If I have some time later, I'll see about posting a few others. Thanks for all the likes and swell comments about my stuff!
Thank you! Yeah, it often happens that record companies mess up with album or single sleeve photos not from the same period as the music. Pretty weird.
Well said. And I know there must be a lot of people looking at this thread that will be thinking the same. I'd love to be so skillful in this way.
Oh, Here's the little STEELY DAN ep I made to mop up the little bit of non-LP tracks, I forgot about this one: Front (booklet): Back cover:
The font was actually more inspired by Who's Next, but the Beatles were always ahead of their time so it could be both!
Love your work! Your heart is in it! My most recent graphic pet peeve was the dust jacket for the Lewisohn book. And was never crazy about the Anthology artwork, sorry Klaus.
Thank you! I try to design sleeves detailed as possible. They really should mirror the music from that time.
