I searched for a thread that was dedicated specifically to this topic, and other than one asking about whether people kept them, I found none. What prompted this thread was finding a trashed copy of CCR Bayou Country for $1 that still had part of the shrink in it and what I thought was a very cool vintage hype sticker. I bought it simply for that sticker and tossed the icky trashed record. Stupid idea for a thread? Maybe. Anyone have any cool ones to share?

Damn, I was just at a friend's place last weekend and was casually looking at his CD copy of 'Brace the Wave', by Lou Barlow. I burst out laughing when I fully read the hype sticker. Unfortunately I can't find a pic of it on the web at all, and he's away for the next 10 days on a camping trip. I'll try to get a shot of it and post it when he returns. Anyway, the sticker was just text, from memory:

    '7.6/10. A solid solo effort.'
    -Lou Barlow

That's some serious hype. I assume it was on the front when he bought it, but of course he had to save it so he stuck it on the back.

It's not a hype sticker as such, but I have a poster for Kate Bush's album Never For Ever that hypes the "Hit Single Never For Ever!"

Of course, the title track of Never For Ever was removed from the final release of the album and has never been heard by the public.

My all-time favorite would have to be this gem from (the crazy-prolific) Robert Pollard of Guided by Voices, on his 2015 solo record Faulty Superheroes:

Funny how it says "The Blue Oyster Cult."

For whatever reason, Pearl Jam released no official singles in the States from their first two albums. The problem was that they did in other countries, and those singles contained songs unavailable in the U.S. If American fans wanted to get those cuts, they had to buy imports.

Realizing this, the band finally released their Ten and Vs. CD singles in the U.S. en masse in 1995.

The German first press of "Nevermind The Bollocks" by the Sex Pistols had a great hype sticker, nasty purple with yellow writing advertising the singles "... and EXTRA TRACK 'Submission'"

The whole thing was made to look "vintage", torn and half peeled. Like those "dirt stains" Converse are printing on selected new Chuck All Star models.

Working in a UK record shop in the late 70s, I was surprised to get in an order of the latest Kiss album, "Love Gun," each emblazoned with a "PUNK ROCK" sticker

And could also double as a King Gizzard 2017 hype sticker.

However, this and Here Comes Your Man have a wide outer silver ring where the SRC's art used the full disc. Pretty attached to this one, I believe this was my first cd single purchased in 89

Can people please label their photos if it's not obvious from the sticker/photo what the album is! (Even if it is obvious, labeling helps people searching the thread to check if XYZ has been posted before. Avoids other people posting the same thing again when they can't find anyone has posted it already.)

Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illusion II: Someone posted this thrift shop find on reddit. I'd never seen this packaging on this album! (Okay, I'm cheating. The hype sticker isn't ALL that. It was more that the hype sticker pointed to a cool sticker pack!)

The parental advisory sticker you can see on the GNR album above is also very cool. Some else posted that earlier in this thread. "This album contains language which some listeners may find objectionable. They can F?!* off and buy something from the New Age section."

Here's another cool parental advisory sticker, from Frank Zappa's 1985 album, Frank Zappa Meets The Mothers Of Prevention. "This album contains material which a truly free society would neither fear nor suppress."

The sticker on the Nuggets II box that said "Contains virtually no hits." That inspired me to buy it but I wonder if it contributed to the box going out of print as quickly as it did.
