First of all: there are various organ manufactures with their distinctive sound - Hammond, Lowrey, Vox, etc...

My first experience in a stereo store in the 70's what deep bass was meant to sound like when Jon Lord slllliiddeess down the keyboard to shake the fillings in my mouth in that intro. And he can jam!

I don't think anyone can top this (except maybe Procol themselves e.g. Repent Walpurgis, Weisselklenzenacht) but I'll also put in a mention for Genesis's
"Firth of Fifth" (I always have to check if I have the title backwards).

I concur, and it was immediately what came to my mind as soon I read the thread title.

All of these pop and rock songs that others are naming for this thread are quaint songs that contain an organ in the instrumentation, but nothing can equal a musical piece written specifically for a solo organ, and heard in a space where the power from the organ pipes can shake your inner organs to the core.

No, in no way is a harpsichord considered an organ. It's much closer to being a piano, where the strings are plucked with quills instead of being hit with hammers.

I already named a favorite but this gets honorable mention. Besides, the guy has the same label I do:

    Must be nice.

We used to have a B3 and 122 at my former place of work, a live music venue. I don't play, but I ended up being the custodian for the organ, and often had to show people how to start it and how to find good drawbar settings. And bail them out if they did a big glissando and hit the mute button on the presets...

They sold it, but not the 122, and somehow I ended up in possession of the Leslie when a new manager asked "what's this ugly brown thing and why is it in my way?"

I'd be happy to find an M3 to go with it.

Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida has a nice organ solo in it, along with a little hint of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" snuck in the organ solo.

The Simpsons take on it is also one of my favorites
