A great question, but when it comes to my "elite of the elite" artists, the bulk of their entire discography sort of all flows as "one great work"...

    Kiss (1974) through Unplugged (1996)

Led Zeppelin (1969) through In Through The Out Door (1979)

If you remove any album from the strings above, the full scope and variety of the band's story feels incomplete.

On the other hand, some favorite artists do indeed have pockets that stand out to me relative to their other periods...

Between The Buttons (1967) through Emotional Rescue (1980) The Rolling Stones

Get Your Wings (1974) through Night In The Ruts (1979) Aerosmith

Greetings From Asbury Park (1973) through Born To Run (1975) Bruce Springsteen

    1974 On the Beach
    1975 Tonight's the Night
    1975 Zuma
    1977 American Stars and Bars
    1978 Decade (comp)
    1978 Comes A Time
    1979 Rust Never Sleeps
    1979 Live Rust
    1980 Hawks and Doves

This string of classic (or near classic) albums is as great as any other artist's.

Great choice. And, frankly, I don't think any other artist can match this run.

    Unparalleled.

The Kinks had a brilliant (and probably my favorite) run:

    Face To Face
    Something Else by The Kinks
The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society
Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)
Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One
    Muswell Hillbillies

Also, the Stones, from Aftermath to Exile.

Was even considering adding Up and Reveal, but have to admit I don't enjoy the former as much as some.
