It's funny, but all my Strats have the vintage tremolo system and are set up to "float." According to guitar techs and Floyd Rose enthusiasts alike- that is a recipe for tuning instability. However, I have never, ever had any issues keeping these guitars in tune! I leave a Strat out of it's case around the house and pick it up randomly when the mood strikes. It has been laying around for over one year. I checked the tuning the other day and it's perfect A440!

I don't use any special tricks but recently I have been using a product called Big Bends Nut Sauce. This really helps out with guitars that go "clink" when you tune them.

Properly set up, most guitars should stay in tune. Problem is, most guitars are pretty poorly set up for the majority of their lives.

That 'Ping/Clink' is the the result of string binding in the nut. Cleaning/recutting is in order.

I was in a band with a guy who had a Strat from that era (and in that finish) and it weighed about 170 lbs.

Speaking of road worn, I'd play that only if there was a roadie standing in front of me wearing it.

I know exactly what you mean. Its the fear of breaking headstock on the LP. Which they are infamous for.

I have a couple Strats (one is my fave of all my guitars to play) but if the house was on fire as they say, i'd grab my Tele, which is special for a number of reasons. One of which it's a limited edition, and was used (is currently used) in photos on the Fender website promoting the series. And I mean THE guitar. :)

Due to Osteoarthritis, I can't play anymore. I started playing in 1965, but the only Fender that I ever owned was the 1990 Strat Plus that I recently sold. That was a real good guitar and had features that corrected the things that I hadn't liked about Fenders in the past. It came stock with locking tuners, rolling nut, Fender Lace Gold pickups, TBX tone control, and Hipshot Trem Setter. That guitar stayed in tune, no 60 cycle hum and great tone. Even though I had always been a Gibson man, that Strat became my gigging guitar, until I bought my '95 ES-335. Then it was back to Gibson for me.

Fenders are great. I currently have a Mexican Telecaster which is actually pretty nice.

I'd really love to get a Fender VI bass. Those things are cool. I played a reissue Squier VI and that was great too (and more my budget).

And... my first real bass was a 1983 Fender Bullet Bass which was cream and had sort of a tele headstock. I still regret getting rid of it.

Tele complaint # 2: I hear people say "the tele is a workhorse guitar" what the hell does that mean? absolute ****e talk. People just repeating crap they've heard said somewhere else.
