Presumably a vinyl release of the Capitol version of Lumpy Gravy (that was previously on the Lumpy Money triple CD).

    This.
But it's a good idea to have it pressed as an Lp. Especially since the previous lp reissues from the FZ catalogue were really good.

Has anyone here picked up Lumpy Gravy Primordial and compared it to the version on Lumpy Money? Why is the sequencing different? Is some of the material different?

It turns out yes, it is a different tape than they used on Lumpy Money, and has one musical difference (it starts with "King Kong," while the version on Lumpy Money starts with a drum/timpani solo).

Saw it today at £35. No thanks at that price.

So, how do we know which are the correct selection titles?

Both were correct at different times, I guess. According to Joe Travers the master they used for the RSD version was marked "final" by Zappa.

The bootleg files that circulated around the internet (which were stereo) started with "King Kong". This was before Lumpy Money was released.

I never found out the source of those.

    What's On Lumpy Gravy?

Lumpy Gravy (Capitol Records STAO-2719, August 7, 1967)—recorded between February and March at Capitol Studios, and released at least on the form of an 8-track cartridge, but quickly withdrawn. There are two known versions, and the only difference between them is on "Sink Trap," which on version 1 starts with 15 seconds of music unavailable on any other version, but on version 2 starts with the 42 seconds of "King Kong" also available on "Foamy Soaky".

I meant the source of the bootlegs. 4-track cartridge. 8-track cartridge. Acetate. Test pressing.

Picked this up from Waterloo Records on the way home from work. Sure enough, it starts with "King Kong", not the percussion.

    Sounds great, too.

    BTW, mine is: 1277

There was never an 8 track cartridge. Only 4 track.

Judging by the sound I think the circulating stereo copy is from an acetate (or a test pressing in rough shape).

Yes, I love the sound on this. What a BIZARRE thing to exist!

I've never posted a ltd. edition number before, but mine's #144.

So is this just the first section of the first Lumpy Money CD pressed to vinyl?

BTW-I own the 8 track of Lumpy Gravy. For what that’s worth.

No, different source tape with one different musical section (see above).
