Back in the '70s, I picked up a bog-standard Decca pressing of the first Genesis LP in VG+ shape. Some years later, I got a much better shape copy (near mint) but it is slightly different.

I know that when the LP was first issued it pretty well bombed (sold only a few thousand copies) and that the mono editon is quite sought after. This copy of the album is in stereo with the lyric insert. The lamination on the front of the cover folds over onto the back. In the upper right corner of the back cover is a hole where you can see the inner sleeve. If the inner sleeve is blue (like mine), it denotes a stereo copy... and red for a mono edition.

Can anyone confirm if this is indeed a first pressing?

Here's a good site that should help work it out

I think the key point is that if it has a boxed Decca–logo it indicates 2nd pressing or later (probably )

    All the best - Andrew

Thanks for the tip. Looks like a really good resource. Appears to be a second pressing (with "boxed" logo).
