Harlem Shuffle is abit average but I like one hit to the body. Listened to Bridges to Babylon last night right the way through after watching some of ole ole ole, great album.
I would rather have "One Hit", but the "Harlem Shuffle" selection for "GRRR" may just come down to "Harlem Shuffle" being the bigger charting hit of the 2. Also, "Harlem Shuffle" was played in almost every show of the Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle Tour. Not sure if it's been played since then, but if it has, not regularly. "One Hit" had a few appearances early in the Steel Wheels tour, but was dropped quickly. Regardless, if it's me doing the compilation, "One Hit" goes on there not just because it's a great tune, but it gets Jimmy Page's name on the credits!
Wait - so you want them to drop hits to include less successful songs? I wouldn't call "Out of Control" a hit anyway. Though it got to #12 in Poland, so there's that!
I want them to drop a junk cover for an original they wrote that's the best song on the album probably
But your argument for the inclusion of some songs was "they were hits". If you want them to include the hits, then "Harlem Shuffle" needs to be on there...
I really love the Live in Japan - Tokyo Dome From the Vault 'Extra' show, which just came out this year on Ward records. Supposedly it was a camera rehearsal from the 24th February 1990. Video quality is a little iffy; they cleaned it up best they could, but still obviously a grainy videotape source. Most importantly it sounds great and the band are really cooking. Probably my favourite Steel Wheels-era show, in fact.
England Lost is definitely the worst Mick Jagger song I've ever heard. If that's what he would bring to a new Stones album, they can just retire. Good god that's bad.
It does on "Mother's Little Helper", "Street Fighting Man", "Heartbreaker", others too. I think the new songs are good
I'm listening for the man who squats behind the man who works the soft machine. These tracks don't sound like him.
But the song doesn't unfortunately. It sounds like he's trying too hard to remain relevant for the kids.
He has tried and succeeded. I think it works and it's getting lots of attention. I'm no kid (30+) but people in my age group are responding to these songs in a positive way
The last topical thing he did which I thought had any substance was "Highwire" on the Stones Flashpoint album.
Well, I am at least 20 years older than you and for me it doesn't work. The fact that the songs might be topical doesn't bother me but the fact that they are not very good does. Guess I'll just have to listen to Crosseyed Heart or Wandering Spirit instead.
