  5. To me he seemed like that one really nice and favorite teacher whose class was the highlight of the day.
    Funny man. Rest well.

    Very sad news, indeed.

Interesting that of all the great, comedic roles Wilder has done, the best (or apparently most) remembered one appears to be Willy Wonka. I enjoyed that, of course, in addition to Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, his work with Richard Pryor, and even his small cameo as a fox in The Little Prince, but I think my favorite was probably the original Producers, and this "blue blanket" scene in particular:

Producers, The (1967) -- (Movie Clip) A Minor Compulsion ยป

Nice to see him getting the love he deserves here. He will be missed. :(

Disappointing that seems most remembered for his good performance in a very bad (imo) film (WWATCF).

His speech to the jury at the end of The Producers always has me in (happy) tears. A perfect way to end that wonderful film.

    Young Frankenstein book
Mel Brookes has his name twice in big bold letters on it even though he said it was Gene's idea( in interview ).Though he did say he missed Gene, also said a few nice anecdotes about how they met.
