During some action scenes the music was total cheese reminiscent of a kids action flick

"Scarface" and that Giorgio Moroder synth soundtrack comes to mind, however, given the time frame it was released, that was what was commonplace.

One of the best things about it. Really suggestive the Euro espionage scene.

Wow, I would say the reverse. The Moroder soundtrack is the only thing that has lasted.:righton:

I also think it's an overrated Morricone score. He is the best, but this one feels bloated and very 80s.

 That score is awesome! Very 80s but in a good way.

Some of the good Brat Pack movies from the '80s suffer now from having dated soundtracks. For the times, they used mostly current hit and popular songs that people were familiar with. Now, many of the songs are cringe-worthy and anyone new to these films (and the music) who will see them for the first time will probably think the soundtracks are awful.

(I still like the Breakfast Club soundtrack, though. And it is my favorite Brat Pack movie.)

I'm glad you like it. If we all agreed earth would be a terribly dull planet.

Yeah, that one was horrible. Damn zither people, they think they're all European and sophisticated, when really they're just playing a fancy auto harp like John Sebastian or June Carter Cash.

The fantastic film - Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (Steve Martin & John Candy)

At least it has Steve Earle doing "Six Days on the Road"

  16. I know that is the popular opinion. I am one of the minority, perhaps tiny minority, that loves the APP soundtrack. Made the movie even more memorable. There were a couple of scenes where I didn't like the specific choice of song/theme they used, but overall very good. :hide:

Not saying The Firm is a masterpiece but damn...that jarring and awful Dave Grusin garbage is just hideous. I've never seen this film and decided to give it a go on Amazon Prime last night and just could believe how inappropriate the accompanying goofy music was.

Throw in Last Exit to Brooklyn, another Knopfler score, which is full of bad synth sounds. Not that I'm saying it's a very good film, but the score makes it worse.

There are a lot of bad movies I enjoy just for the music, though I'm talking late 60s/early 70s. A lot of Italian and German stuff, also Les Baxter and Hugo Montenegro.

One that bothers me is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Not so much because of the score, but that awful '80s pop that they played during the nightclub scene (shudder!).

Love this movie but the soundtrack is numerous versions of "The Tennessee Waltz" throughout the film. Great role for Harry Dean Stanton in this one.
