NAD makes great stuff. Period. You can't go wrong with NAD. The Marantz PM series also gets great reviews. I listened to the PM5004 when I bought my KI PEARL amp and was completely impressed. The NAD 3020 amp maybe my next amp.

The Marantz PM5004 is a very nice amp. I got mine shipped for $450.

A guy I know on another audio forum really rates the Denon 720-AE amp. Says it's one of the best he's had and seeing as he's been through most of them under £500 and up to the lines of the Roksan Kandy K2, it might be worth checking that one out.

I'd probably add in, if you can get one, Onkyo's TX8050. Performance and function in one. Very refined plus network connectivity, internet radio, Spotify, etc. Amazing for the money.

    Gary,

You won't be disappointed with either the NAD or Marantz models mentioned. Also Music Hall has a few very nice integrateds to offer. I own a 25.2 and I love the sound. I think they have a 15.2 and 35.2 now in their lineup.

    Good luck-

I have a Music Hall 25.2 integrated (that I need to get around to selling) and concur -- very nice little 50 wpc amp. I think this model may have been discontinued, but the A15.3 seems to be pretty much the same deal and goes for about $550.

I just sold a Cairn 4808 for $450 on Audiogon.
Shame there isn't an active classified section here.

If you don't need analog inputs I would steer you toward a NuForce DDA-100.

NAD D3020 is getting rave reviews. I haven't heard it, but I'm seriously considering it myself for the bedroom. And space is a major concern for me there as well. I have an old Yamaha receiver I thought about using there, but the thing is huge.

Well, there is for CDs and LPs. Not so much for equipment.

This one really is tempting. Have you tried them with inefficient speakers?

I like the versatility of the D 3020.

I think so. I have a Jungson JA 88C in storage here that I ran for 8 years before upgrading to a Shengya A-216 which I bought used for a song. The Shengya and Jungson stuff is huge bang for the buck in terms of performance and incredibly well built.

Does this look like a $600 amp? :D

Judging from the few reviews I've read, it sounds more on the detailed side than the warm side. Is this correct?

I also have a feeling that this amp may not mate well with my vintage speakers.

I haven't heard the Hedo but the Jungson "house sound" is typically on the slightly warmer side of neutral. My solid state JA 88C (which is very similar to the 88E on the GF website-pretty much the same integrated except very minimalist in terms of inputs-only 1 balanced and two single ended inputs as opposed to one balanced and 4 single ended inputs plus a line out on the 88E) is actually slightly warmer sounding than my Shengya A-216 which is a hybrid integrated with tube preamp section and solid state amplification and which I'd describe as being pretty much dead neutral.

GF describes the Hedo as being slightly warm sounding, which would be consistent with the voicing of the other Jungson products, so I certainly wouldn't expect it to sound bright or etched.
