Famously covered by the Gentrys in 1965, here's the first recording of this seminal dancehall needle buster,
"Keep On Dancin" by the Avantis from 1963 :

That was a decent-sized hit up here. Lots of airplay in '69!

I was born in 69 so I'm not sure about the airplay at that time. :D I'm just going by how little it's been played in the past couple decades. I only discovered it via a Spotify playlist.

Some of these are far from semi-obscure. I suggest some chart research before posting, or change the thread title to "Some R&B songs I like" which is what this thread seems to be.

I titled it semi-obscure songs because I don't think most of these would be on an average music listener's radar. I didn't call it just obscure because I figured at least some of the forum members would recognize at least some of them. But, of course, I defer to you, Steve. It's your forum.

Not particularly obscure, but I'll take any excuse to post this:

I'll admit, I went into this expecting the worst but, damn, if Fats doesn't pull it out. I actually really enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing.

    .. this one's way-out obscure !
from a Scottish private-press EP, it's the Sabres with "Keep On Dancing" (not the Avantis song) from 1963 :

Wow! That really sounds like it could have been a hit. Especially in 1963. I really liked that!

It's one of the few Beatles covers that I like as much as the original, despite how different it is.

Tammi Terrell - All I Do Is Think About You.... Written by Stevie Wonder, this version was recorded in 1966, fourteen years before he did for the "Hotter Than July" album.
