I can't stop revisiting this album on a regular basis. It is definitely one of my favorite contemporary black/death metal albums. Unortheta, by ZHRINE
Too bad she wasn't better live (in my opinion). Or not so much her, but the band she had wasn't as talented as her music deserves.
Save me Iceland! On the music front I've had poor fortune for a week. The result being like no wind in the sails, the doldrums of music listening. At one point I thought if I hear one more song opening with tremolo and "Arrrrr" I'm going to go "Arrrrrrr!" I started listening for songs that don't do that! One band I was listening to had the situation of a single song I liked over two albums. Not a perfect song but it had a majesty at points within which I found confounding. Why did they get it so right once only? The two albums are Al Azif (2012) and Tekeli-li (2014). I've not yet listened to their 2017 album EOD: A Tale of Dark Legacy.
Dude! It's a triumph. You've put wind in my sails that'll take me to Friday. By the time I got song four (of seven) I decided to buy it. The only song I didn't like was #6 The Earth Inhaled. Oh well, 6 out of 7 is a triumph. Serenity and seduction by #4. Post-purchase edit: Decent. I saw her on the Decibel tour with Enslaved, Wolves in the Throne Room, and Khemmis earlier this year and her band, to me, was pretty weak. Khemmis was the surprise of the night. They were great live!
Revisiting some Deicide in anticipation of the new one. I remember being a let down by this one when it came out, as it wasn't half as good as the previous one, Stench of Redemption, which I loved and still consider one of the best dm discs of the 00's. But now listening back to it, it does have some tasty, catchy riffs on it. The lyrics make me cringe, even more so than the usual Deicide anti christian lyrics, but this was Glenn's divorce record, and it's mostly about that, making it somewhat an anomaly in their discography.
I had a session with Opeth's Blackwater Park this morning. Still blown away by the album, even on the millionth (only a slight exaggeration) time listening to it.
No kidding this album has been on my to do listening list for a few weeks. It was the album that introduced me to extreme metal, my personal game changer. Much like other heavyweight champions like say Led Zeppelin, once the cool off period sets in it can be years or decades before a desire to listen again returns and Blackwater Park did bubble to the surface a few weeks ago. I saw a notice of pre-order tickets for this and grabbed a pair. My son is super excited. I don't have his 26 year old legs so I chose first row seats in the balcony over general admission. I haven't been inside that place since I was a teenager. It was a movie theatre and played a double bill of the Jimi Hendrix film and Zep's The Song Remains the Same every Saturday night and we took refuge from the cold in there every Saturday one winter. 1979? It's been renovated since then. Spinning this. March 27, 2017
Cool, I'll be seeing Dimmu at the Danforth next month. First row balcony seats for me as well, I'm getting too old for standing through the show in the GA section.
There will be three bands at mine. I might be able to pull off general admission if I didn't work that day. Regarding the Doedsadmiral album, though I haven't even finished it, it was the vocalist that was the highlight for me and I did check him out. Doedsvangr Vocals (2014-present) 2017 Satan ov Suns Vocals Enepsigos As V.I.T.H.R.: Vocals (2015-present) 2017 Plague of Plagues Vocals Nordjevel Vocals (2015-present) 2016 Nordjevel Lyrics, Vocals 2017 Krigsmakt (EP) Vocals Svartelder Vocals (2005-present) 2015 Askebundet (Demo) Vocals 2015 Askebundet (EP) Vocals 2016 Pyres With the briefest listen to each band this one stuck out.
I've been romanced. Looks like a sale. Vixen! Track #4 Stygian Macrocosmos Pt. II, by SVARTELDER Track #5 Realm of Breathing Eyes, by SVARTELDER
Would love to see this tour, but nearest places are hours of driving, ugh. I do have 2 upcoming shows that I will possibly see in Asheville, Obituary on 9/2 and Cannibal Corpse/Hate Eternal on 11/3.
