I haven't seen this posted yet. Does anyone have info on the mastering?

Since these are notoriously difficult to find for a decent price (US or UK pressings, anyway), they are welcomed reissues. With any luck, the mastering and source material are solid.

Cool. Sounds good. At least they're being released by Geffen and not bootlegs. I need a copy of I.

Were the originals single album releases?

No, 2 records in a single sleeve for each album. No gatefold.

I still see the back to black versions around in stores, were they not any good?

Cripes, I remember when these were released. I ordered 10 copies of each for my vinyl shop and they . . .just . . . sat . . . there for months.

I heard bad things about them, I'm pretty sure on this forum.

Also, they were still imports. So they always cost around $40 each when you found them.

they are remastered for vinyl - imo they are better than the CD's which sound kind of dull in comparison - pressings are nice and quiet, they are good but not great

So glad to see you mention that, because I've been thinking that constantly as I see the internet salivating for the reissues. Not that it isn't justified, but those things sat in the shops for years and sometimes I feel like I'm the only one had to flip past them a trillion times.

I was in college and working at the school radio station when these albums came out originally. The CD was a much higher comodity then and they kept getting swiped. So the record company had to ship us the vinyl instead. Nobody was interested in stealing them. We'd get the opposite scenario nowadays. My how times change.

if they are the same as the EU Back to Black series that I've had for a few years, they should be a treat to listen to...

Listened to mine last night. UYI#1 doesn't have any pressing info on either LP whatsoever, just a matrix #...

UYI#2 has both a u-in-a-circle (United?) and www.gzvinyl.com in the deadwax.

Sounded good to my (untrained) ears... Hope this is somewhat helpful.

I got mine from Amazon yesterday. I only had time to listen to UYI 1. Good news it is a clean and quiet pressing. I didn't cranck it up, but SQ-wise it didn't blow me away, but it also wasn't bad. These aren't MoFI, Classic, or ORG releases, so I wasn't expecting audiophile, so I'm OK with them being just good SQ wise. They are a bit pricey, but with the vinyl trend in full swing, we will be paying a bit more for less as everyone makes a quick buck.

I'd say they are worth it if you want these on vinyl. If you already have them, there is no need to have dupes.

Can't wait for 2. As I like it more.

GZ and United? That's a puzzler...

would united press using the same GZ stamper? did GZ do the back to black from a few years back?
