Watched this other night. Thought it might be crappy. It was pretty impressive show. Written by Bryan Fuller (Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls and Pushong --good performances by all involved as well.

What no thoughts? Visually stunning. Not sure about the revisionist take on Will Graham.

I thought it was very good.... NBC needs some hits.....

I've liked that Hannibal guy since Casino Royale.

It was interesting enough so that I will watch it again on Thursday. Good time slot as well.

I frankly wasn't impressed and feel I'd find it tedious with Hannibal "helping" and evading suspicion, etc. I've decided not to watch.

Give it a chance....with Bryan Fuller st the helm (a writer-producer who always took unusual paths with Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me and Pushing Dasies) it's,at least worth a handful of watches.

Pushing Daisies getting axed still breaks my heart. God I loved that show.

Dead Like Me was okay. . . Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies never did much for me. . . I'm not sure I want to give this more episodes, I really feel like it's going to be a big long jerk around that I just don't need in my watching life right now. Plus both lead characters, the weird detective and the sick shrink, just aren't inviting.

I just watched the first two episodes this week, and was pleasantly surprised. At least it moves along at a brisk pace, the performances are very subtle and interesting, and there's a lot of twists and turns. Far better than the usual crime drama/serial killer/whatever shows on out there.

They appear to be sticking a lot closer to the book than the movies did. The real Hannibal Lecter's background was from Lithuania, detailed in the book Hannibal Rising, so it figures he would have a not-quite-identifiable European accent (as the actor in the show has), as opposed to Anthony Hopkins' British accent. Hopkins sure as hell had the attitude: his performance as Lecter in Silence of the Lambs was one of the greatest villains in movie history.

I am bothered by English actor Hugh Dancy's fake American accent, which does stick out from time to time. No question, he's a superb actor, and the accent doesn't kill me, but it does take me out of the story every so often. The show also looks really strange and drab, which I don't think helps it. But it's doing well in the ratings, so audiences like it.

I only checked it out because I'd seen Mads Mikkelsen in "Flame & Citron" and thought he and the movie were great, then saw him in the remake of Casino Royale and liked him there, too. Many have complained on IMDB about it being hard to understand Mads's english speaking <he's Danish>, but I don't have any trouble. I can see Joe Six-pack having a problem, though... ;)

I've watched both episodes and like it pretty well for a new network show - there's very, very little I watch on network tv anymore, but that's another story.

Yes, that was an ongoing element in the Thomas Harris novels: Lector couldn't abide anybody with bad taste or rude manners. People like that tended to wind up as the main course.

BTW, the scariest goddamned thing in the whole show are the loving close-ups of the food Hannibal eats. Is it turkey? Is it lamb? Is it pork? Somehow, I think it's the other white meat...

It's other white meat .:D On the cutting board, last ep it was human lungs
And hotel breakfast scene that wasn't animal graham was eating.

Like in Red Dragon, Hannibal likes to toy with people he likes.

Dead Like Me was good and Pushing Daisies was great. I'm usually not interested in crime procedurals but decided to give this a shot because I like Fuller's previous work. I didn't see any of the humor or lightheartedness that his previous series had. Just seemed like every other cop/detective show. The one serialized aspect of the show is the part about which there is no mystery.

I'm really enjoying this. I didn't expect much from NBC, but have been pleasantly surprised.

I'm enjoying it so far, and wonder how long they can stretch it before Lecter becomes a suspect?

I'm a little miffed that they've already shelved an episode that was supposed to air last week, showing it only in India before posting a severely bowdlerized version of it on the show's web site.

Aaaaaa, if it tastes good and isn't fattening, who cares? I've been to countries where they served me mystery meat, and hours later I wondered, "hmmm... I noticed there were no stray dogs in that neighborhood..."

The episode that was pulled had to do with a serial killer family training young children to kill other children, and I think there was concern at the network that we're a little too soon after the Newtown, Connecticut gun incident to run it. The show was apparently written and shot before the December 14th incident.

I think between that and the Boston bombings, there's a lot of anti-violence pressure being placed on movies and TV shows. Already, critics are pointing out that there's a Chinese Theater bombing incident in the new Iron Man 3 movie, and that hits a little too close to home...

So gruesome murder is okay, as long as it's politically correct...

Yeah....we had that experience in a part of rural China better not to think of it...

As far as the pulled episode perhaps we will see it on DVD or Blu. I'm surprised that the show has gotten away with some of the images they have so far....It makes The Following look positively tame by comparison.

The glorification of psychopaths on prime time TV continues. Imagine taking a time machine to the 50s and showing people an episode of this? They'd be traumatized, yet it passes for entertainment for us. The point of Hannibal seems to be solely about showing us, in excruciating detail, new and imaginative and increasingly sicker ways of killing people. They're trying to pass this off as some sort of serious psychological examination when all it really is the latest ratcheting-up of morgue porn complete with increasingly sicker and bloodier "money shots."

50's were the 50's and 2013 is 2013. Can't compare or you'll go crazy. Know what's nice about TV? The off button and channel button.
