I know that there have been some releases of very early Lloyd films, but the Harold Lloyd Trust has finally cut a deal with a studio (New Line) to release his best known stuff on DVD. No details on release dates yet, but more information is available at this link.

This is great news Ken! :righton: I'm not overly familiar, but the few shorts I've seen in my day are excellent. He was phenomenal as both an actor/comic and a stunt man.

...I've been waiting for this for years! Our local PBS station ran Harold Lloyd marathons years back. Had them on VHS...EXCELLENT NEWS!

I totally agree!! He was one of the greatest physical comedians of all time. "Safety Last" is one of my favorites.

I remember seeing them on tv some time ago and was so amazed at the picture quality that I had some doubts they were of that era, but I looked up Harold Lloyd and found it was all real. How were these prints so well preserved?

Lloyd owned the rights to all of his features and took meticulous care of them.

Many of his early shorts are missing, though.

It's fortune that he took steps to make sure those films were preserved for future generations. With most of those films being 80 years old and some older, it's pretty amazing that they're in as good of shape as they are. So many great early films have been lost because of neglect, mishandling, or just the ravages of time.

Well, step right up and call me Speedy...this is wonderful news!!! :goodie:

Maybe even more exciting, IMO, is that the movies (or at least some of them) will be getting theatrical screenings throughout the country. Coupled with the DVD releases and the airings on TCM, this is the most public exposure Lloyd's work has had since...well, *ever*.

    I can't wait.
