This might be a dumb question but should I leave it on for a few hours? should I open up to see the hardware?

    Any Thoughts

If it’s vacuum tube, sure. Turn it on and let it sit for a few minutes before you play it.

Are you checking out something to buy? Bring a working CD player and make sure all the RCA inputs work.

Make sure it has a phono input for starters.

More info would help. How long has it been out of service?

What is it and how long has it been since it was turned on?

I’m goimg to guess there is a 99% chance you can just fire it up. If it’s something super vintage you need to bring it up to power slowly with a variac

I bought it on goodwill's online store it said it was tested as good. I dont know what that entails. Its a Denon 5.1 Channel AVR-3300 Stereo Receiver paid $28. When i turn it on everything lights up. I think Im good. My speakers arrive on Dec 1st. Bought Elac Debut B6 for $80 Off.

What you will need is the remote, a television and the manual. If you are just running 2channel, set up is much easier. “Pure direct” is your friend when listening to stereo. If you have to assign which digital input goes to a source, it gets weird.

Also...you will need a phono stage if you don’t already have one.

That’s good news. Do you have it in your possession? I pulled up a pick on the internet and didn’t see one.

Those old Denon's are known to be a bit 'crackly'. A good old fix we used to use back in the day was to open 'er up and sprinkle iron filings around. Amazing how much improvement in sound quality (PRaT) one could get from that little known trick.

Check to be sure there are no bats in there, or audio gremlins.

Always a good idea to wait at least 30 seconds with a SS amp, just to allow the filter caps to fully charge and for all the voltages to settle. Tubes need a lot more time to fully warm up, perhaps 5 to 15 minutes.
