I would love a hi-res copy of In a Silent Way. I hope they haven't tried to remove the tape hiss since that would pretty much kill it. If someone posts a good review I will grab this one.

Hope they do Big Fun as well.

Get the MFSL SACD. I've listened to both. SACD is better. My fave Miles.

I don't have a player and won't be getting one so I can't take that route.

This must be made from one of the SACDs. I already have two SACD versions, so I'll probably pass on this. Nah, I'll get it the next time they have a sale.

It's probably the same mastering as the Sony SACD.

I wonder if Thriller is the same mastering as the SACD. That would be good.

Yes, it is. Both a running DR Number of 14. And that two versions sounds like twins...

I'm curious as to how this works when they release two different resolutions. Its confusing. Which one is the "real" one? Is the 88khz being upsampled to 176 or is the 176 being downsampled to 88 khz? Are they actually two seperate mastering from the original tapes?

When the releases are in 88.2 or 176.4 kHz they are generally DSD/SACD sourced, so the "real" one is actually 1-bit/2.8224 MHz DSD, but HDTracks converts the stream to PCM (like you can do at home if you have a PS3). If they rip to 176.4 and then downsamples to 88.2 or make two separate rips is unimportant imo. Upsampling would of course make the 176.4 files pointless, so I very much doubt they'd do that.

Oops, too late... what Claude said.

Slave's first album "Slave" is available. 24/96 and 24/192. I opted for the 24/192 which sounds really good.

I just got this week's email from HD Tracks, I just noticed that they are listing new hi res titles that are only 44.1k/ 24 bit. Isn't this medium res? I've always considered 96k (or 192k) 24 bit to be hi res, not 44.1k. Or are we gonna finish up like video, where we have 'hi res' (ie better than standard res but less than hi res) and 'true hi res' (ie it actually is hi res). I do buy stuff from HD Tracks and I'm pretty happy (except the Rolling Stones hi res which don't sound sound hi res at all) but this is not entirely accurate marketing from them IMHO.

For me, it's the 24 that makes it hi-res.

I forgot to get it and a few others yesterday when the sale was on. I'll wait until the next sale (hopefully a 20% one).
