I tried to post in an earlier Maiden Voyage SACD thread but it's closed. I read here that the Maiden Voyage APO SACD was hard to find as it's OOP. I just did a search at all the usual places and I did not find a single copy for sale at any price! Of all of the SACDs in my collection this one seems to be the rarest of them all. I wonder if this had a limited number of copies sold? I'm very glad I bought it when I did. It'll be in the Oppo tomorrow for sure :)!

Glad I got it as well. You never know when these APO SACDs are going to go OOP. I am fortunate to have all the Blue Note SACDs released by APO. A great series with great sonics.

Excellent :)! I have most of the Blue Note APO SACDs. Is there a list of all of those released? I'm curious as to how many I'm missing from the set.

Edit: I just looked over at Acoustic Sounds and it shows 47 Blue Note APO SACDs. But I think that is a list of what is available.

    Ted,

Thank you :)! It looks like I have them all. I'll have to double check though.

I have the APO Maiden Voyage SACD, but have not opened it. There is also a blu-ray with Maiden Voyage and Empyrean Isles..a good value. I have that one too, but have not listened to it.

I follow Chad Kassem's motto: Buy now or cry later. I buy now and listen later.

I checked Ted's list of Blue Note APO SACDs and found I was missing four from the set.

So being an OCD collector I just ordered the four missing SACDs from Acoustic Sounds :D!

    Dexter Gordon - Go
Johnny Griffin - Introducing Johnny Griffin
Paul Chambers - Whims of Chambers

*Thanks Ted for costing me $108.00 *

They released 50 Blue Note SACDs, if only 47 are available then 3 are OOP.
We know one is Maiden Voyage.
What are the the other two?

Not sure. If you look at the 47 titles available at Acoustic Sounds that would indicate the two that could be OOP.

    I think these two:

    Grant Green—Idle Moments
    Art Blakey—Moanin'

I have had a similar experience with the APO SACD of the John Coltrane album Coltrane on Impulse. I saw it for sale a couple years ago but missed out on it. For about the last month Ive been searching for a copy but haven't been able to find a single one! By the way I do have Maiden Voyage and it is good but I would rather have the Coltrane!

I had the Coltrane SACD and sold it to someone on the forum a couple years ago since I have the 45rpm and it was "awaiting repress". Well, that repress never happened (so far). I do have Maiden Voyage, Idle Moments and Moanin' at least!

Wish they'd do Speak Like a Child on SACD. Or any other Blue Note Herbie. My second Blue Note SACD wish is for Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch.

Yeah I was hoping to eventually pick up all 50 and noticed I have 17 more to buy! And of course the 3 OOP weren't ones I purchased. I noticed Maiden Voyage was sold out a year ago. The other two were in stock back then...
I also added Maiden Voyage to my eBay following. Over the last year I have only seen one or two pop up for sale. Truly a rare disc.

Good point, guess that was me being lazy not wanting to take the time to compare the list of 47 vs the original list of 50.

And I see Hank has done that work for us :)
I don't have that many of the AP Blue Notes (only 18, I got some catchin' up to do) but luckily Idle Moments and Moanin' are among them.

For anyone interested, I found that this is one of the very few APO titles that were bettered in terms of mastering by the official Blue Note hi-res downloads. If I recall correctly, 'Maiden Voyage' was done by Alan Yoshida.

The tape exhibits lots of hiss (it sounds like a copy to me, the master may be lost?); AP tried to counter that by dialing back the treble, but it ended up sounding a bit lifeless. The hi-res rectifies this and sound exciting and open.

    So that one's OOP too?
    Damn.
I've been paying so much attention to (slowly) completing the Blue Notes I've almost completely ignored the Impulses.
I only have one : Ben Webster Meets Oscar Peterson

Totally agree with Chad Kasssem's credo of "buy now or cry later" but I just can't come anywhere remotely close to keeping up

  19. Anybody pick up the Platinum SHM cd released back in March? Wonder how that stacks up to the APO

It's mono, aka a fold down. The RVG fanboys (tongue firmly in cheek) will now scold me and say it's called 50:50 ;)

It was indeed mastered by Yoshida - the same engineer that mastered all of the titles in the amazing Audiowave Blue Note XRCD series. Moanin' is available in hi-res as well and was mastered by Bernie Grundman. Both include very nice PDF liner notes.

As mentioned, three AP SACDs are OOP. Of the 47 remaining in print, 42 are in "Limited Stock" status. If you want to collect this series, then you better scrounge up the money and get moving...

Yeah, I've thinking about that for awhile.
31 titles at $30 a pop, then hopefully at 20% off, will run me almost $750USD.
Thats reduces the amount I can spend on new speakers by $750.
    A dilemma for sure

I should clarify. They are in limited stock at Acoustic Sounds - that's normally where I order my AP albums. I don't know about the stock status at Elusive Disc, Music Direct, etc.
