I think sitcoms avoided screen doors for expediency's sake. Remember how long those doors took to wheeze shut?
Generally, the first and last episodes of many seasons are not that good. Early on they dragged in Bob Vila for some sort of showdown with Tim. They were kind of lame with lots of mugging for the cameras. Later on, opening episodes featured "away from home" episodes: a hunting lodge vacation, being at sea on a Naval ship, travelling to a wedding in Traverse City, etc. But the regular episodes in most seasons are pretty much OK. Some may dislike the episodes with the girl twins, but they have their charms. It was pretty obvious that they were trying to inject some young-kid humor back into the show as the boys were all getting too old. Taylor-Thomas' loss in the final season hurt a bit, but his character had gotten rather whiny by that point. Bottom line is that most episodes in the later seasons are OK. There are a few "very special episodes" to watch out for, but mostly they're OK.
It looks like eyeball melting crap, right? Zoomed in and cropped. Just horrible. I don’t know if this is a Hulu thing they do with all non-HiDef programming or what, but it’s nearly unwatchable. Classic SNL episodes on Hulu looks the same. Wretched. dan c
Can we mention how bad the character Willow was? I know she was only in 5 episodes but it was a bad 5 episodes lol
Earl Hindman ("Wilson Wilson") played one of the bad guys in THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE. Another actor from that movie also turned up on HOME IMPROVEMENT. Dick O'Neill played Tim's old shop teacher in several episodes. Meanwhile, Hector Elizondo, another baddie from the movie, plays Tim Allen's partner in his newer series, LAST MAN STANDING.
Does anybody remember which shows on other networks that Home Improvement competed with? Looks like the show was on at least two different days, both Tuesday and Wednesday. I read this interesting old article in Los Angeles Times about Tim, his stand up routine, performing in front of Michael Eisner, serving time in prison, his contributions to scripts, etc. Tim Allen's Power Tools : Television: The comic who had Disney and cable executives abuzz parlayed his luck to develop 'Home Improvement.'
