... and be surprised that this series was really shown on US TV. I thought that the American TV is very prudish and Californication shows a lot of b**bs and a**es and f***ing people ... :)

That's because it was shown on cable TV. Regular network TV very rarely shows "the goods".

And yes, American TV is prudish.

What was even more surprising about the first season was seeing the little girl from the Hand that Rocks the Cradle and The Nanny revealing everything.

I watched it with an enthusiastic friend but I didn't think it was very good, basically a decent but not great show with soft porn elements tossed in. I declined to watch Season Two.

No, that doesn't make it on network TV either.

Come on, don't be so dramatic.

Yeah, somebody needs to call ABC and tell them so stop airing all that murder porn on Tuesday nights. Children could be watching!

Don't judge American TV by what you think it is. American TV encompasses a broad spectrum of different lifestyles, attitudes, and cultures -- some of it X-rated, some of it family-friendly, some of it in-between.

In this case, this is a Showtime pay TV series, and is not subject to the FCC rules on content or censorship. It's also only shown after 10PM (theoretically), so adult content is permitted -- up to a point.

This is an American tradition going back more than 30 years, when Pay TV started in the 1970s.

Is it available on Netflix streaming? I watched a few episodes that first season but didn't keep up with it.....lots of eye candy I do agree with.

The first ten minutes of the pilot (with "You Can't Always Get What You Wan't as the theme song), was the funniest (and most outrageous) bit of television I've seen for a long time!

"Hank is going to hell"

I enjoyed the first couple of seasons, but couldn't really keep up with it after that because the network it was on over here kept moving it around in the schedule (as per usual with shows that they have to show after a certain hour - same thing happened with The Sopranos and Six Feet Under).

I should try to catch up with it. It didn't seem like it had much room for the characters to go after the second season, but I imagine they came up with some ingenious direction for them to go.

I particularly liked how all of Hank's books shared titles with Slayer albums.

I agree, this is a great show and very entertaining. I watch the series on disc as I don't have Showtime. I'm rewatching Season 4 right now. Rob Lowe and Carla Gugino do a great job.

Rob Lowe is some kind of freak on there. I just finished season 5 recently. The show is still good. I think Becca has always been the weakest part of the show, but Duchovny and Natascha McElhone are great. And so is Evan Handler. I my favorite season was the second one, with Callum Keith as Lew Ashby. The Hank-Lew friendship was really fun. I really like Judy Greer's recurring role as Trixie. Sometimes the show gets a little too crazy and starts seeming like Entourage, but there's still a lot to like.

That was a good season. They each have their flavors. . . and I like all of them, and the first is probably the one I like the least, but only by a little bit.

Didn't start watching this until recently but got majorly hooked on it. I think it's a fantastic show.

The only season that I didn't like that much was Season 3, I thought the whole Kathleen Turner and Rick Springfield thing was just stupid. But they recovered nicely the following year.

I'm happy to see that Maggie Grace has a recurring role this season as the rocker's "muse".

I have to say 30 Rock on NBC snuck in some really jaw dropping stuff past the censors.

Look up "Lemon Party" in the online urban dictionary if you are feeling courageous. It will lead to some very NSFW links

I'm a few seasons behind on this show. When Hank gets arrested in the season finale was the last I've seen but I'll catch up on it soon on Netflix.

What about the authenticity of the rocker's (Lew Ashby/Atticus Fetch) lifestyle depicted in C.? Do the still party hard, do tons of coke and women, all that jazz 70's style?

It has been a good run, I've enjoyed the entire series though some seasons were more successful than others. I'm hoping another cable show will come along with a similar swagger to it, I think I need to have at least one politically incorrect, raunchy TV show at the ready when the mood strikes.
