I remastered PHIL COLLINS "But Seriously" today for Audio Fidelity. Sounds fantastic.

Can anyone say if any of the early pressings sounded pretty good as well? Or are the AF versions far and away better then any previous release?

I always liked (and never heard someone complaining about) the original 1989 release.

Reason I'm asking is I may be an enthusiast, but I don't have a lot of money to throw around. And I already bought the AF But Seriously, and I think it sounds great, but I'm considering the others.

I can't speak for any other pressings (were there any?) but I have the original CD and the AF. I found the original to be bright to the point of shrill, and pretty much unlistenable at higher volumes. The AF tames all of that and made the music that much better.

Read through the last few pages of this thread and I think you'll find many agree.

Edit - wait... I think you may be asking about other AF Phil Collins CD's other than But Seriously. That I don't know, the only AF I have is But Seriously.

Exactly, I got the impression that "But Seriously" was far more terrible than the previous albums probably because it came out later.

IME, all the original target pressings sound fantastic. But, so do the AFs.

FWIW the Target pressings = any original pressing you can find at a used store. Don't go paying extra unless you want the label.

I think the original cd was the first I remember thinking "this sounds awful, thin and shrill". Of course I had no idea why back then. I took it back.

FACE VALUE is one of Audio Fidelity's best discs all around. Great, great album.

I was playing this at the weekend. Great sounding CD. I did have the original but sold it in one of my 'clear-outs' long ago.

I still have my AF CD, and it remains the best way to hear this album...I'd like to see AP out out an LP reissue in line with the 45 rpm "Face Value" 75th anniversary release.
