It's impressive that it tracks, but my goodness, your cartridge probably doesn't like you very much. A Vinyl Flat would fix that.

    that is hilarious!

I bet the hills & valleys in the record are keeping the stylus in the groove, during the cannons

The capability of MP500 tracking is terrific ! (Of course, TTX as well)

I used to have that record. I had one of those HarmonKardon Rabco tables and the canon would make the needle jump up about 1/4". So yeah, it passed.

May I politely suggest a double check of your tracking force?

I accidentally found that my 2M Bronze can track a warped record like that, I suspect a good tracker will.

But I avoid letting it do so, and into the bin I place the record, if I had a vinyl-flat I would try that before the bin though ;)

Go to Hobby Lobby and buy a battery clock movement, drill out the center hole of the lp and turn it into a clock. I would never play that on any turntable I have owned.

I think he sets his cart Nagaoka MP500's VTF to around 1.5g. (Nagaoka recommended VTF value is 1.3g-1.8g)

You are right, Kazu. The VTF is 1.5 grams. :)

Just adding some key words for this thread to be easily located in the future (someone may want to search for threads about the 1979 Telarc LP with the recording of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture performed by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Erich Kunzel, and this one won't show up if those terms aren't mentioned).

In all seriousness, though ... the MP-500 is kind of an expensive MM cart, even if you did get a great discount from Kazu. Why chance damaging it like this?

I know, Ben. But not anymore! I dared to take the risk for the sake of testing and fortunately the cartridge survived, but now I'm considering the clock idea for the LP (currently waiting for the replacement copy).
