If "Within You Without You" was writtten by Lennon it would be a classic.

I see a fair amount of disdain for "Northern Song" and I don't get it - I always thought it was a really good track...

Back when the BBC had that Pepper special where bands covered a song, maybe in '07. Liam made sure Oasis covered Within You Without You.

George's two ABBEY ROAD songs were the best on that album.

I like "Within You Without You" as it works on PEPPER, and also as a Side Two opener. I'm not sure if it would be better revered if it had been a John or Paul song... I don't think so.

I think you may be right! If Lennon wrote and recorded it using only Western instruments, it would be held in much higher regard.

It's a classic anyway. Listen to what the Jimmy Herring band did with it.

I think "Revolution 9" might win that debate.

No. George's "high water mark within the band" would be [depending on your preference] 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps", 'Something' or 'Here Comes the Sun'. I think most people would select 'Something', while my choice is 'Here Comes The Sun'. That song, and not 'Within You, Without You', ranks with Lennon or McCartney's best.

I surprised myself by liking the instrumental "Within You, Without You' that appears on the 'Anthology' set, which I much prefer over the original on Sgt. Pepper. I've never been fond of the original - music or lyrics.

Well -if Imagine had been written by Barry Mannilow it might have been regarded as a piece of schmaltzy s-t.:)

Better in mono, believe it or not.

If this was on a none Beatles album, I'm sure most people wouldn't give it the time of day. I like a lot of Georges' Beatle songs but this is a tuneless bore, LYT and TIL being more of the same.

Do you listen to East Indian music otherwise? Just might be one of those musical genres you'll never get into.

Seeing as you asked, I can't stand Indian music. Whatever it is, it sure as hell doesn't sound much like music to me.

It really needs bag pipes to go with that sitar. Each instrument panned hard left or right. Stereophonic cats in distress. Groundbreaking.

Play it without those horrible sitars. Why didn't John play 'I Am the Walrus' live? It's easily arranged for a couple of guitars.......

Thank you . My point exactly. At least for '67.

John couldn't have written "Within you without you", musically or lyrically. He wasn't that keen on India.

"It's All Too Much" is a great song!

I genuinely love 3 of the 4 "exclusive" "Yellow Sub" songs. "All Together Now" is the only one that leaves me cold...
