    CDs don't have surface noise.

No luck finding simple Y-Adapters here. Online search has brought up Monster, Audio Quest, Blue Jean and db Research. The first 3 are all equal in cost and db is the cheaper one. The shipping to Canada is the worst part. My search of Future Shop, Best Buy and The Source (formally Radio Shack) have not given any results. Suggestions?

You can find them on amazon.ca.

Huh, I searched for RCA Y cable and found both mono female to stereo male and mono male to stereo female.

My Amazon CA search resulted in the RCA to a jack/plug and different configurations but no proper Y Adapters as was posted early in the thread.
    Thanks for the links.

I tried the tape out/tape in connection method. It works, but is the significant decrease in volume normal? I had to turn the volume up about 10db more than I would listening in normal stereo mode.

Volume is about the same on my amp, between tape monitor and straight phono, so "no" - not a normal occurence.

Some quirk of your amp, perhaps?

Can anyone put up links to the correct required connectors on Amazon UK?

I headed over to Radio Shack, got the the two Y adapters, put on an old Thelonious Monk Columbia mono album, two eyes on the label, and sat back to enjoy. The y cables smoothed out the sound. Previously, I thought Mono records sounded good but "jumpy".

Has any one heard of, or found, audiophile Y-adapters? The adapters from the Shack were cheap, and I am wondering if the cheaper components are affecting sound quality.

I have been reading this forum for a long time before I joined, and this is without a doubt the most valuable piece of advice that I have picked up here. It has breathed new life into LPs that I had relegated to the "junk" pile.

Looking at your ebay cables. Is that copper wire in there? Are they quite thick? Also, is that black piece a junction connector or just molded. Just interested, they look good quality. How are they sounding?

I put a switch in so I don’t have to rework the cables, so yes, very happy.

They seem really good quality for the price and sound good, really decrease surface noise etc.

If you click on the links to ebay there are good descriptions - I am not technically minded:oops: - seem to be Oxygen free Copper and Gold Plated connectors.

    Seem really well made

Where in the chain would this be installed - Turntable to Phone pre-amp OR Phono pre-amp to Amplifier?? does it matter?
