At least when she was new, Ricki Lee Jones was likely going for some of the same crowd.

Sometimes, when I've listened to everything by SD and DF I reach for Michael Franks albums ... especially Sleeping Gypsy (simply sublime, eg: B'wana He No Home)

Think the Beach Boys/Carl & The Passions does sound lots like both Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs.
No surprise Donald Fagan & Boz Scaggs worked together in The New York Rock & Soul Revue -
Thought Steely Dan fans would enjoy this clip. Members of the The Rascals were also a part of and Charles Brown, husband of Ruth Brown/blues artists.

Lot of attempts but they all lack the intelligence , musicianship & writing genius of Steely Dan...

SD was / is in the top 3 greatest 1970s era bands / musical conglomerations...

For a nice 60s neo- psychedelic flavor opt for the core 5 Spirit LPs

And for a little more 70s funky flavor go with Little Feat & Wet Willie...

All 3 of these bands are B rated Steely Dan kin folk

“Tomorrow’s Girls” from Kamakiriad totally sounds like a Steely Dan track

Very solid comparison indeed. Might I recommend Brian Auger & the Trinity?

The album Pieces of Matthew Larkin Cassell was rediscovered few years ago and has some very interesting and sophisticated harmonies on it.
I personally prefer it to any Dan album.

This might be counter intuitive but ... Robert Plant, Pictures at Eleven album ... it's something else ... I know it's not SD, but ... ... ...

This Paul Steel track reminds me of Steely Dan in some ways:

There is a connection, though minor.

Jay Graydon's assistant is the mother of one of the band mothers, and she is the one who told me about State Cows.

  25. State Cows have some great material. They are currently putting out tracks for a next album digitally (one at a time). I think there will by a physical release later. I'm liking the new ones, which have a better drum sound than their last album.
