Ouch! He's gained weight. I wonder what's with the Oktoberfest outfit?

Prix, I know a guy who worked with him on a film here in Montreal and he told me the man eats like a horse. And this guy was no Skinny Jim, either. Bowie's also a big smoker.

Does he look like a glam Davy Crockett, or is it just me?

    Sean,

For future reference, please include the artist name in your subject heading. Otherwise, we have no idea what your thread is about. In addition, it makes archive searches more effective.

Thanks for sharing the photos! BTW, Bowie does look a bit like a futuristic pioneer doesn't he?

Yeah, I knew he was a big smoker. He's been chain smoking his entire career. I wonder how he can still sing. Those photos are miserable. Bowie is finally starting to show his age. The guy should be on the Atkins diet. I can't think of anything more depressing or horrific than seeing my hero, Bowie, looking like an overweight glob of grease. BTW, what do you mean you're not a fan, Sean? What the heck is wrong with you?

Prix, I was born in 1960. By the time I was a teen I found the sight of a man mincing around in a spacesuit and makeup just wasn't my bag. As I got older and HEARD the music I found I really liked some his records, although I don't have any.

To be fair to Bowie-this was his first show after recovering from the flu and he still was not 100 percent better. He has stopped smoking for at least 2 years.
He really hasn't gained that much weight. I'm thinking he could be taking steroids for breathing.

I wish I could look that good today. ;) And I wish I could sing that well. No need to auto-tune Bowie. So what if he's gained some weight, it's the music that matters.

Dudes and dudettes. I was kidding about Bowie's fattitude. He is fine. As long as he can still see his feet, he's not fat in my book. Besides, he accomplished and is still accomplishing so much in his life. He should be allowed to let himself go every now and/or then. He'll be back to his fightin' weight in no time.

Quite. It's been a lot easier to admire Bowie since about 1975. I don't know how I'd have reacted if the Ziggy Bowie had been part of my experience of getting to know him.

Bowie ain't fat - not even close. It's just a bad picture. I saw him at MSG on Monday night, and if HE'S fat, I'd hate to see pictures of the denizens here! :D

Go here for some more representative photos:

Bowie isn't fat. I saw him recently on TV & he looks great. In fact for 56 he could probably pass for his early 40's. I know that he quit smoking & works out regularly so maybe he beefed up a little bit. Not fat though. I'm sure you can pick out a few other rockers his age who might have plumped up a bit though! :p

Thanx for the link, Oatsdad. I was at the Tuesday show at Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. A pretty accurate description on the web site there.

    From the Bowie website:
"The last show of the current run of David Bowie's A Reality Tour was played in Uncasville, Connecticut, last night. I've not yet managed to find any reviews online, but apart from supplying the great shot above, BowieNetter, nancyh, sent me a couple of amusing observations from last night. Obviously I can't vouch for the accuracy of them, but it's an entertaining read either way:

The show was hysterical. A real mix of characters. Lots of drunken louts having fun, and lots of people there out of curiosity. David picked on a row of six middle-aged men in the fourth row, sitting down all talking on cell-phones during "Fame" by miming a cell phone conversation while singing the song.

After he ended with "What's your name, what's your name, what's your name..." he again pointed them out and said to one of them: "Don't bother telling me your name, just call me with it". And he continued: "So you're on the phone... what are you so busy talking about? Buy... sell.... sell... I love this place!" said with good humor.

We also found out that the road trucks got caught in the same traffic jam that I did, and arrived late with no time for sound check. However, the band was tight, and David commented to Gail about some new sybilance she added to a song, asking her did she dream it up on the bus while stuck in traffic."

I would add that the sound was pretty muddy where I was sitting (mezzanine, to the right of the front of the stage). At these prices, I want a sound check! No excuses!

Good show, not mindblowing, though. A mix of older popular songs this time. He announced one song as being a Pixies song. He showed his bottle of "musicians friend," something he was drinking to help his voice, and asked the audience to help him sing "all the young dudes." The audience surprisingly did a good job!

My least favorite stuff is when he stops to sing "Life On Mars" with just piano accompaniment and "The Lonely Guy," which he introduced as a new song he had wrote while looking out the window of a high rise, and was swept by loneliness. This was another Anthony Newley-type yowler with just piano backing.
    Songlist:
    01 Rebel Rebel
    02 New Killer Star
    03 Reality
    04 Fashion
    05 Hang On To Yourself
    06 Fame
    07 Cactus
    08 All The Young Dudes
    09 China Girl
    10 The Loneliest Guy
11 The Man Who Sold The World
    12 Hallo Spaceboy
    13 Sunday
    14 Under Pressure
    15 Life On Mars?
    16 Ashes To Ashes
    17 Afraid
    18 Let's Dance
    19 Changes
    20 Five Years
    21 I'm Afraid Of Americans
    22 "Heroes"

    Encore
    23 Suffragette City
    24 Ziggy Stardust

    And He wasn't fat! (LOL)
